appx-backup's Issues

MakeAppx.exe location

Parameter -WSTools for location needs different location for MakeAppx.exe:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\App Certification Kit
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\bin\10.0.19041.0\x64
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\bin\10.0.19041.0\x86
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\tools\bin\i386

Prevent an app from updating after manual installation?

First, thank you very much for the script! I'm now able to use an app again that received an unwanted update on the store that rendered it unusable for me.

One issue however is that the Windows Store tries to update it to the latest version each time I check for updates. I'd assumed that like the Google Play store an app wouldn't update if its signature didn't match, but it looks like the Windows Store will still update a side-loaded app with a different key. Is there any way to prevent this, short of stopping all automatic Windows Store updates for all other apps as well?

package builds, but installation fails

I thought I'd try out the script by backing up the solitaire app and reinstall from the backup:

.\Appx-Backup.ps1 -WSAppPath "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection_4.9.6151.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" -WSAppOutputPath "e:\tmp\appx" -WSTools "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\bin\10.0.19041.0\x86\"

This created two files in e:\tmp\appx. I installed the certificate and then tried double-clicking the .appx file to install. It threw up a dialog, I told it to install, it ran for a little bit...and then failed with the following:

App installation failed with error message: Deployment Add operation with target volume C: on Package Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection_4.9.6151.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe from: (Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection_4.9.6151.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx) failed with error 0x80070057. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=235160 for help diagnosing app deployment issues. (0x80070057)

I also tried another app and got the same result. Has something changed in newer versions of Windows 10? (I'm running 21H1.)

Check for trailing slash on -WSAppPath parameter

Super helpful tool! Ran into a gotcha that isn't worth fixing, but just throwing it here as an issue in case someone else runs into it.

If you have a trailing slash on the -WSAppPath parameter, you'll get a non-intuitive error from the MakeAppx call. Took me a few minutes to figure that out, so hoping this helps someone else out in the future!

Couldn't do it!

This totally my fault. I couldn't make this (backup-recover). If any body make a video about backup and recovery store apps with this tool it will be useful for everyone. Thanks
