I'd love to do this, and there have been minor efforts to do this, but nothing has come as a result yet. I'm not motivated to make a large effort to do this since we rely heavily on this library and don't want to break API compat with our tools (and others) that already use it.
But if we can find a way to consolidate, I'd be happy to contribute.
