Hello :)

An enhancement that could help in firsts phases of the game: adding a recipe
to repair damaged tools, made with the tool in the center and the tool's
ingot over it, that gives a new, repaired tool.

Even faster is the current recipe when you put two or more tools in
the crafting grid and they are made into one tool with less damage! :)

  • it is shapeless so put the tools anywhere...

Tried it, but isn't the same to craft another tool after the current is broken? Putting a node of the same material upper the tool is less expensive in term of resource usage, and it could be faster when digging given the amount of mese or diamond that you find.

So you're asking for a reduction in the cost of tool manufacture (in
effect)... this assumes that your wooden handle does wear out... which
in reality it most certainly does though conceptually since torches
last forever then why should tool handles... but then why shouldn't
tools themselves? I'd also note that repairing tools in reality does
not return them to a pristine state so there is an inefficiency in
that respect... I guess if this is possible maybe I'd be happy for
another recipe to be added but that is something that is unlikely to
happen except by adding a mod I think (as I understand it adding new
blocks and recipes to minetest_game is seen as very exceptional these
days because it is so easy for them to be modded in - the route I
would suggest you take if you feel strongly - it may certainly
persuade more people of a need for this feature if they discovered it
utility...)

Hope this helps,

Johann

It's more like obtaining a new tool crafting the wear one with the same type material, typical situation for this change is when mining deep underground and having tons of diamonds/mese makes annoying to return to base, pick wood, craft sticks and finally craft another tool (pickaxe in this case), having a new pickaxe with just a diamond or mese over it it's way faster than using two tools and crafting them together to make a new one.

Maybe this could be better made with a mod instead of changing the recipe for repairing tools.

Hello :)

for repairing tools.

Probably, I think a lot of people would object to making things this
easy... why not just have a pick that one hit mines everything made
entirely of stone? ... (that's taking things to the extreme so as to
show the point I'm trying to make...)

I understand what you're saying. A stone pickaxe is made from stone and 2 sticks, and its utility is to mine stone. So it gives a lot of stone, and we can repair it from one of these cobblestones ! It ruins the principle of the survival mode.

Maybe we could add anvils to minetest and do what minecraft does. Or what about a repair shop that can repair tools if you have the resources to repair?

or make torches from wood and coal burnout and get removed from the game server after some time?

-1 because of this:

A stone pickaxe is made from stone and 2 sticks, and its utility is to mine stone. So it gives a lot of stone, and we can repair it from one of these cobblestones

@trukoil tagging you because this PR is old, do you still want to submit this or close it?
