It's pretty obvious you use "jump" to climb a ladder (who wouldn't try?), and "sneak" to descend (well, not really, but I guess most players would try)... for the menu, it is too.
Minecraft doesn't show an obnoxious "press Esc to show menu" and millions of people play it. :P

Thanks for the command tips, I did figure out that space = jump when interrogating the code.
