Thanks to Land & Spatial Information, Dept of Natural Resources Mines and Energy, Queensland, we are able to properly name the road/street network in Queensland, Australia.

Land & Spatial Information recognized the power of OpenStreetMap and after all real-life issues they had (bushfires, COVID-19), they agreed that their current license is sufficient for naming the roads/streets in that territory.

The process itself does not include any import.
We will use their vector map as a base map, and editors will name the roads according to the base map. If there is a coverage of Mapillary or OpenStreetCam, or any change made by local mapper differs gov data, we will double check it and contact the user if it is necessary.

Task Description

As Conroe City, TX has a growth rate between 2015 and 2016 of 7.8% (11 times the national average), it merits looking into this and updating the road network using a combination of available imagery assets, and the 2017 TIGER dataset accessible in OSM. In looking to add new roads, we will review the following characteristics of the data - alignment correction, directionality, road classification, setting surface tags to paved or unpaved, and adding turn restrictions where possible. We will also clean up an existing suspicious Tiger data following the guidelines.

Mapping Guidelines

The Team will use the JOSM tool, along with any of the resources listed below to identify and add missing roads and clean up Tiger roads (we are only updating the road network at this time (no buildings, etc), additionally we will only be adding roads that lead to 3+ residences). We will be adding/updating (when possible) road: geometry, names, directionality and one-ways, turn restrictions, road class, surface type (we will only be adding paved or unpaved), speed limit, traffic signals. The team will follow OSM guidelines for adding and tagging each.

Area of Focus

We are going to focus our efforts on the top 15 fastest growing cities in the US based on the US Census with emphasis on the outer edges of the city where new construction is more likely and thus new roads to add and repair.

Just wanted to give some feedback about connecting ways. I've come across a few edits around Victoria where ways have been connected to create junctions while none actually exist on the ground. This then creates issues with incorrect routing and misleading spatial information.

We will evaluate the use the Texas roads dataset as a corroborating source for finding missing street names for Texas roads.

We will confirm the compatibility of the license for editing in OSM

There are a number of water features with more than one incompatible tag. These are mostly small reservoirs (landuse=reservoir) with an additional waterway=river or water=lake tag. These are small and easy to clean up.

Using the list below remove the incompatible tag. Use the underlying imagery to improve the accuracy of the water if necessary.

This task aims at improving the overall coverage of Turn restrictions in Australia and fixing specific invalid turn restrictions. Using available mapillary imagery, ortho imagery and probe data we will look at road markings and other indications to confirm if turn restrictions or mandatory traffic flows exist on a case by case basis across all of AU. Improvements should cover the following:
• Mandatory traffic flow directions.
• Adding turn restriction relations.
• Correcting any road alignment at junctions.
• One off fixes.

Task description:

This task is looking to improve the map data in Fiji. We will also use all available aerial and street level imagery assets available in OSM. We intend to edit the roads, looking to focus the following:

Task summary:
This task includes identifying updating missing street names/missing named streets nationwide in the USA. Improvements to the existing road network will include:
• Updating street names from official government sources (City, County, or State level)

The MS Open Maps team will work to add one ways and turn restrictions to improve the overall network in the Seattle area.

Sources:

• We are comparing the Seattle GIS Open data set against the current oneway=* attribution in OSM. The City of Seattle maintains a one-way dataset here which is Open and in a compatible license with OSM.

• The team will use both Mapillary & Bing Streetside imagery for validation.

Scope of editing:
The bulk of editing is adding one way attribution to the motorized road network. Additionally, the mappers will look at the attributes and classification of features they are editing.
Any others issues encountered will be resolved using the general and local guidelines outlined in the OSM Wiki, and USA guidelines.

Validation:
The team will using the built in validator in JOSM editor when uploading.

We have identified several areas where the existing coastlines are either over simplified or do not line up to actual coastlines visible from multiple imagery sources. In some cases these are older edits to align coastlines with ABS sources and contain long straight lines or sharp right angles. We would like to update these coastlines to more properly align with the land according to sources of satellite imagery.

Area in need of an update:

• Use the identified ways below as a guide to improving coastline geometry
• Extend the coastline boundaries to include beaches where appropriate
• The coastline Wiki suggest to update to the Mean high water mark. This can be difficult to determine so consider multiple imagery sources, or if unsure keep the original ABS boundaries.
• In cases where Ways are members of a relation, edit each relation member without breaking the relationship
• Update the source=* tag where appropriate.

Use the ImproveOSM plugin in JOSM to identify and fix missing one way roads.

In many cases (but not all) the probe data and correctly identify missing one way tags on roads. In many cases these are bits of ways in the middle of larger roads that have been missed by mistake.

• Load the ImproveOSM plugin in JOSM
  

• Inspect the area around the missing one way

• Look at nearby roads to see if there is a pattern.

• Check the paint markings on the road

• Check the direction of the cars if you can see them clearly

• If you're not sure, leave it. Put in a map note for someone on the ground to check.
