lightswarm's Issues

Beautify

  • Convert black tape to white on tentacles.
  • Trim tentacle velcro to proper lengths.
  • Make the power rail aesthetically consistent.
  • Make the power rail terminals safe from contact with metal frame.

Tap into 5V Rail

Connect 24 DC connectors to the 5V rail, possibly via tap screws. Solution needs to seal the rail against air intrusion.

OTA Updates

Get Squidlets to auto-flash themselves remotely.

Install questions

Do you have a pinout diagram anywhere for the Wemos/ESP? Or where do you have that defined? I'm interested in getting this setup going on a few bikes for next year's burn. Thinking of adding microphone sync for providing an off-car light show near an art car that syncs up with the beat.

Got a few other ideas too for bikes that would be a nice addition. Maybe start with 'bike swarm' mode, with a way to detect signal strength to order them? I donno, I just want to get this flashed on this years bikes to see what you've got and see if this is a viable path.

Shrink wrap power rail

Cut holes for power nipples, and then seal everything in, for aesthetic appeal and environmental protection.

Project Photos

Hey! I came across your repo while searching for projects that had used the ESP8266 + mesh networking at the burn. I'd love to see some photos if you have a link to your final project. I am also curious to hear if you had any issues w/ mesh networking as I am designing a project that would require 10-20 connected nodes with synced LED animations. Thanks!!

Mount Squidlets

Connect each of the 6 squidlets to the four tentacles (likely mounting the squidlet to the power rail hoop).

Beat Detector

Build a beat detector that injects automatic bpm and beat-start information into the network.

Tap-based beat box

Build a hardware box that allows someone on the Jelly to tap-tap-tap to the beat, and it sends to the network (a) the BPM and (b) a timestamp associated with first on-the-beat moment.

Subsequent taps should be possible at any time to re-align with the beat, in the likely case that drift strays the animation from the music.

Mount Tentacles to Rail

Connect each of the 24 tentacles to power on the power rail, in a way that keeps them connected.

Build Squidlets

6 squidlets, each containing

  • A brain
  • A box for a body
  • An antenna
  • 4 LED connectors
