I cannot find where are the apps installed even I have configured the ROOT_D

There's no reason to make it hard for the user. We could just symlink $ROOT_D/bin/em to /em.sh. I guess there should be a make task which does it, and it should be called each time something is done inside $ROOT_D.

Simplify the implementation of the install process. There's no reason to keep any .cpio file since we can just pipe them using rpm2cpio x.rpm | cpio -id.

I just found in the process of uncompress, the cpio files cannot be found.

bash: root/cpio/screen-4.1.0-0.25.20120314git3c2946.el7.x86_64.cpio: No such file or directory

I think that's resulted by the set of ROOT_D in Makefile line 43:
ROOT_D := root

Use this could solve the problem for me:
ROOT_D := $(CURDIR)/root

is it possible to use non-standard repos like installing EPEL or others and then getting software from there?

In make environment, environment is too long to type, and might contain a spelling.

By default, ROOT_D should be inside the user-you.sh folder. Putting it outside makes infringes the least surprise principle, and might not be seen by users who were just quickly testing the script.
