tiddlygoo's Issues

Mark - please try out theese trees

@Marxsal

I'm super happy to announce some new TiddlyGoo. Please try out these, i.e:

  • the DriveTree script that turns a Drive folder into a tree structure in Sheets
  • the DriveTree plugin that turns imported such rows into a tiddler tree structure

<:-)

Import Process breakdown

I'm calling this a new issue, vs the previous one in queue, because (a) that was reported 6 days ago; and (b) i was using this plugin heavily more recently than that -as you can see by Recent tab on the site i'm building, it was <4days ago- and nothing has changed, since i last ran the SheetsIn script, except appearance of this error msg:

Error on request
-- The selected googlesheet tiddler probably has a missing or faulty spreadsheet-id.
https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/worksheets/1QUoZosiS3emBQNM_HugaptU5qY1Ze5lBQXVd8yZit6A/public/values?alt=json-in-script&callback=CallbackRegistry.cb734802

NB: That error msg (different from what's reported in issue#6) was following a call to the demo spreadsheet, which i used to confirm that it's not just a problem w/ the gSheet from which i built the website linked above: i'm experiencing the same fail with importing from BOTH of these sheets... Yet it was all working fine on Monday of this week, and nothing has changed on my end since.

So: i'm really hoping this is just a temporary glitch in the Google Sheets service, and not some change in policy/ permissions/ API/ whatever might mean that this plugin will no longer work... Because i've got some serious work to do in the next little that depends pretty heavily on this plugin =8-0...

Outline for how (and why) to make people use this.

Why should we want people to use this plugin? Because:

  • the plugin opens the gates to a huge, unexplored, territory and we want more people to join in and create cool stuff for us all
  • it is a big selling point for TW itself and has the potential to attract more people to TW, which is always beneficial

In my view, there are two "keys" to make people use this:

  1. A "killer application" for the plugin
  2. Make the plugin ubiquitous because we can't "market" it and it will not be "advertised" by official channels

For our plugin, I believe there's an obvious killer app and where the ubiquitousness follows incidentally: Everyone has needed a community plugin library forever. TiddlyGoo - even just the SheetsIN part - can easily be modified into a (some kind of) plugin library. And this would incidentally make it ubiquitous because it is one of those things that makes sense to install right away even if you don't need it now because they know they will need plugins eventually.

If these arguments seem reasonable, the question is just what exactly a plugin library would mean in this case. I propose that we discuss this here @Marxsal

For the spreadsheets themselves I believe these limitations, out of all, are the only ones we need to keep in mind:

  • max 200 sheet-tabs per spreadsheet
  • max 50 000 chars per cell
