boxeeremote's Issues

Back button does not return you to the previous application

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start BoxeeRemote
2. Click the back button on the device.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected to return to the previous application or home screen.
Instead, BoxeeRemote stays active. This breaks assumptions on how an
android application is supposed to work (IE Back button should always take
you back to where you were). This is what lead some users to request a
"Quit" feature

Technical:
Need to modify BoxeeRemote.onKeyDown()

Remote control logic is too directly tied in to User Interface

It would be wise to refactor the code so that all boxee\xbmc-related logic
is separate and distinct from the UI.

It looks like some moves have been made already to correct this issue.
However, more needs to be done.

Ideally, our Object Model should allow us to release all the remote control
logic as a Java library that others can use.

'Force Close' after using hardware's volume buttons when not connected to a server

Are you using Boxee or XBMC?
N/A

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start the application.
2. Do not connect to any server
3. Click the up or down volume controls

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Volume buttons should be ignored and everyone moves on with their lives.
Instead, 'Force Close' window appears.

Please provide any additional information below.
The problem is isolated to BoxeeRemote.onKeyDown(). mRemote.mHost is null so it
leads to an
exception.

Notification messages obscure the user interface

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Produce a notification message. Ex. Click on buttons without connecting
to a boxee\xbmc server

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect notification messages to be unobtrusive.
Instead, they obscure parts of the UI.

We should integrate this fix with our general revamping of the UI.

Pause/play

There should be a play/pause button. I'm not sure where it should go in the
UI, but it shouldn't be hard to get the buttons to do the right thing.

Marketplace Issue -change web link.

-Are you using Boxee or XBMC?
not yet

-What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. on the G1 open the market place listing for boxeeremote.

-What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
You mention in the comments the need to check here for instructions on
howto use, however the comments on the market place are not selectable
text; you can't copy the weblink or click it.

When clicking on the "visit the developers webpage", it goes to your home
page, not the google code page. Your home page doesn't have any mention of
Boxeeremote under your apps, and there is no obvious link to here.

-Please provide any additional information below.
I think this is more a problem with market place. Developers webpage should
point to the developers webpage -there should be an obvious link to the
googlecode/homepage for EACH APPLICATION.
However, until they fix this, I'd suggest you either change the link or
make sure you link to here from your website.
Users are lazy, and not being able to copy/paste or click myself to the
instructions meant i've ended up jumping on the computer.

Find Boxees endless loop

Are you using Boxee or XBMC?
Boxee on ATV
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Menu
2. Find Boxees
3. If boxee remote does not find a boxee it never times out
4. Hitting the back button will cause the app to become unresponsive, needing a
force close.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
A message after timeout saying that no boxees could be found would be nice

Please provide any additional information below.

Need better graphics for on-screen buttons

Some users on the Market commented that the UI could look better. I agree.

It's somewhat superficial in relation to the other work we have planned. Then
again, this is the kind
of thing some users care about, so we should make them happy.
