I ran into following issue when running some Lisp interpreters in Docker for Mac:

docker's default seccomp profile blocks the "personality" syscall, so using
the default ones + personality should be ok. However, my observation so far
is that Maxima compiled with sbcl prints a warning on startup, but seems to
work properly after that. Maxima with gcl, on the other hand, doesn't start
at all.

personality Prevent container from enabling BSD emulation. Not inherently dangerous, but poorly tested, potential for a lot of kernel vulns.

So, I think you are using Seccomp profile for Docker which is incompatible with GCL (Maxima backend). I guess that you should use --security-opt seccomp:unconfined or --privileged for docker command.
