brain_tumor_mri_classifier's Introduction

Brain_Tumor_MRI_Classifier

  • A Brain tumor is considered as one of the aggressively cancerous diseases, with a wide range of age.
  • Brain tumors account for 85 to 90 percent of all primary Central Nervous System (CNS) tumors.
  • Among all primary Central Nervous System tumors, brain tumors comprise 85 - 90%.
  • 11,700 people are annually diagnosed with a brain tumor. The 5-year survival rate in patients acquired CNS tumors is very low and approximately 34% and 36% for men and women, respectively.
  • Brain Tumors are classified as: (1) Benign Tumor or (2) Malignant Tumor, or/and kind of tumors like: (3) Pituitary Tumor, (4) Meningioma, (5) Glioma, ect.
  • Life expectancy and quality of the patients can be improved if they are diaganosed early and accurately, and given proper treatment as well.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technique is routine detecting method for brain tumor(s). The MRI captures a huge amount of images which are examined by radiologists. The level of complexities associated with brain tumors and their properties leads to high misclassification.
  • Application of automated classification techniques using Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence has consistently improved accuracy and works as computer-aided tools for physicians.
  • Hence, proposing a system performing detection and classification by using Deep Learning Algorithms using ConvolutionNeural Network (CNN), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and TransferLearning (TL) would be helpful to doctors all around the world.
  • Hence, I propose some modified and fine-tune Deep Learning algorthms with transfer learning for classification task of brain tumors. Regarding to my best knowledge, my work achieves the state-of-the-art result.
  • The dataset can be downloaded from here [https://www.kaggle.com/sartajbhuvaji/brain-tumor-classification-mri]
  • The codes are stored in the notebooks folder. The predicted results can be seen in the Confusion Matrices folder.
  • My trained weights of models can be downloaded at RELEASES
