In practice this code is generating year-long certs, which appears to be determined here. I haven't followed all of the plumbing, though.

Your linked code is about the Registration Authority. Based on the names, I think it is used for validating the control over a domain, not the signing of a certficate?

The term Registration Authority actually comes from RFC 3280; it is the gatekeeper of the Certification Authority. It's responsible for deciding if a CSR should be issued. It does so by performing verifications, checking things at the database, applying policies, etc.

@pde: You're mistaken. The code you cited makes authorizations valid for a year, not certificates. As the CA code stands right now, the certificate validity period is set by the config of the remote CFSSL instance -- not by the Expiry value in the config described above.
