jam0002's Issues

LangSessions Proposal

Some developers may not feel comfortable with the idea of a LangJam that lasts for a week, let alone 48 hours. At the same time, it would defeat the whole purpose of a "jam" since that's what supposedly also gives it its charm and allows the creative juices to flow under such limited time constraints like never before. To include more developers into the language design scenery, we could have a longer running event each month in addition to LangJams called "LangSessions" where projects go on for a whole month with more well-defined themes that may not have been covered already in LangJams (exceptions may be allowed through huge enough demand). This gives people the ability to not feel so pressured into having something working in such an incredibly short time knowing that there are plenty of developers working a 9 to 5 (sometimes 5am to 9pm) job who can't fit in all of their time into this kind of session. Not quite as long as https://itch.io/jam/the-longest-game-jam-ever-in-the-history-of-the-history-of-itchio but it is a reasonable compromise IMHO.

The big takeaways I have gotten out of this event are that limiting scope/feature creep is essential when it comes to any project and that proper language design education is certainly lacking. Anyone is certainly capable of learning everything that's necessary during a LangJam, but time restrictions will definitely hamper one's ability to retain the information and use it properly during a LangJam without resorting to creating "yet another lisp". I am grateful for this opportunity for other developers to join this LangJam (and other events like it) and I will certainly bring back the ideas created in this LangJam into projects, maybe even a project derived from this LangJam that will be used by millions of people around the world ;)

Feel free to leave any feedback along with any questions/concerns about LangJam/LangSessions and which is more preferred.
