Thanks for the feedback! I'm thinking of dropping the nickname (display name) and just allow users to change their username. I would like to see limit on how often a username can be changed. For example, users could change their username a total of 3 times, or once every 6 months, Maybe keeping a record of previous usernames would be beneficial as to prevent confusion among users on the platform. What do you think?

Personally, I'd prefer the approach of changing the display name only because it leads to less confusion. But I'd like to hear what makes you lean towards the other option.

In my opinion, I like the "once every X months" option! I think it is the system most people are used to as it is very common online. It also allows some flexibility. Perhaps a "once every 3 months" option could work, mostly because I've seen shorter time spans like one month or even two weeks, so maybe a 6-month period could be considered too long.

Maybe keeping a record of previous usernames would be beneficial as to prevent confusion among users on the platform.

The idea is certainly good, although it isn't seen very often and I believe there are people who don't like it much. I have seen friends of mine complain that if they change their username it is to "leave the others behind". I suppose one could add a note to their biography if they wanted to let the rest know about their former names. Or as a more complex solution, perhaps users could decide whether their past usernames can be viewed or not. What do you think?

Edit: @keyxcode's idea sounds like a good solution as well.
