Hi Robin,
Thanks for the kind words.
If you buy the pcbs from OSH Park you will have to assemble all of the components yourself as I do right now. Since I designed the board for LiPo-battery-powered, portable (wearable) applications, the components are all small and surface mounted. A nice challenge for someone to put together who has experience using surface mounted parts but it would not be an easy task for inexperienced persons.
I am waiting on a production order for ESP32 Dev Boards from Beijing in order to have a larger stock but it will be a couple of months before I can get them. In the mean time I am assembling a few by hand each month or as required to meet demand.
Yes, the shipping cost is $14.95, but this is a fixed cost, in other words, it is paid for each shipment no matter how many ESP32 Dev Boards you order. So ordering one makes the price quite a bit higher, but ordering three or four not so much. In any case, if cost is the primary driver for you, you would probably be better off with the Sparkfun Thing or Adafruit's ESP32 Dev Board, these are around $20 but quite a bit larger and not really suitable for wearable applications.
Please e-mail me at [email protected] with further questions or comments.
