Communicate with Sensor

Set up and deploy an application image that is able to communicate with the sensor.

DoD: Able to communicate with the sensor and see output to the terminal via ssh Determine how I plan to communicated with the sensor, and how I plan to make the application image.

Blockers: Wiring and I2C enable Unblocked

Set up Python Environment for Circuit Python

Configure yocto build for the python modules for bitbake. As an intermidiary step I may just install pip to be able to test the python code, and then roll back to making sure the packages are baked into the image.

DoD: Circuit Python and required Modules

Blockers: None

Create Server Application

Because I chose python for my coding for this project, I will just keep the application and server code in the same repository. Bare minimum for this feature is to read the values and output them to the console. If I have time I may look at having a more robust UI or setup an API.

DoD: Able to MQTT messages from AWS and display them

Blockers: MQTT setup

Setup AWS MQTT

Configure AWS with a MQTT message queue to receive sensor messages from the application image.

DoD: Able to receive and read MQTT messages

Blockers: Can't complete until sending MQTT messages

Select Air Quality Sensor

Look at various air quality sensors and determine pick one and order it. Preference for SPI or I2C interface

DoD: Air sensor ordered and received

Blockers: None

Wire up Sensor

Wire up the sensor properly to power and SDA/SCL and reset.

DoD: Be able to see the I2C address in the raspberry pi table

Blocker: Can't confirm proper connection until I2C is enabled

Enable I2C

Update the yocto conf file in order to start with I2C enabled

DoD: able to verify I2C is enabled

Blockers: None

Setup Application Image

Create an application image in python that will be able to read from the sensor and write to a log file

DoD: Reading from the sensor and writing to a log file

Blockers: Python environment

Enable WiFi

Enable the wifi on the Raspberry Pi and verify I can configure a connection to my home network

DoD: able to remove enet cable and still ssh to Raspberry Pi

Blockers: None
