tab's Issues

Caching with Chrome Extension

I really love this idea. I know that the reason it can't be a local chrome extension is that Chrome forces the search/url bar to have focus the whole time. I cloned the repo and messed around with faking input commands to try to get the focus to change, but nothing worked!

Reason I started looking into that is that Chrome doesn't appear to be caching the page for the new tab. So getting to the page takes about 1.5 seconds and my internet is about 200mbs down. I was thinking implementing a service worker could serve to cache the site pages, since none of it is really dynamically updated.

Adding Command for Google Inbox

Would be nice if there was a command for Google Inbox similar to the one for Keep where typing just i takes you to inbox and adding a semi-colon after allows you to search.

Basically the functionality of the Keep command but for Inbox.

Serving page locally in Chrome extension?

Hey, I just stumbled upon your project today.
I really like the idea and I could work on it a little, but unfortunately it takes too much time to load the page for me. When I open new tab I start typing instantly and it results in loosing half of my query.
Have you thought about serving html straight from Chrome extension instead of redirecting?

Google/DuckDuckGo toggle

Many people prefer DuckDuckGo over Google.

The two options I am considering right now are simply adding DDG as another command, or have a toggle between Google and DDG. The latter would result in slightly less cluttered commands (not having two similar search engines), but the former would be much easier to implement.

I think for now I will add it as a separate command and in the future see about a toggle.

Font Color

Not really a bug so much as a flaw in the UI design. I like how you can change the background color, but since the font color stays black it becomes harder to read the darker the background is. Probably the best solution is making font-color adjustable too. Maybe an alert pops up if a user tries to set both to the same color. Just a thought.

Otherwise it's quite excellent.

Checking if query is URL

I think it would be much more convenient if it was possible to open an URL without using t; command. Maybe some simple checking if query is an URL? Checking for a dot for starters?
What do you think?

Add Google Maps

Don't know how much this would be used but i'm used to using !gm in DuckDuckGo, as with others, gm takes to Google Maps and adding ; after allows you to search.

Add user-created commands

The user should be able to create their own site commands. (command + url + search url)

These would need to be kept separate from the default commands so they could be removed. Also, the user should not be able to pick a command that belongs to a default command.

Option to change command delimiter

Hi,

I've been using tab as my startpage for a while, and I have really loved it! It works especially great when using a keyboard-based browser such as Qutebrowser!

I have very few nitpicks with tab. Firstly, I think that the ; seperator is ugly and unnatural to type. In order to be able to use a space seperator, I forked tab into https://github.com/arjvik/tab. Unfortunately, my solution is super ugly - I simply replaced the few instances of ; that I saw with an empty space. I think I may have missed a few corner cases too as well.

Would you be able to create a setting to replace the ; seperator, and implement it cleanly in a way that doesn't miss any edge cases?

Thanks for the great startpage btw!

Question about minified files

Just wondering what the difference is between index.html and index-notmin.html, it is just that one is minified, does it matter which one is edited?

Add 24-hour clock option

Copied from Chrome store support request:

24 hour / military time clock?
Hi, I'm a total fan of the whole command line thing you have going on here seeing as I'm forced to use Linux on a daily basis at work... However, I was just wondering how your screenshot on the web store here is in 24 hour time? (i.e. it shows up as "08:00)? Is there a command I can input to do the same to mine? Thanks in advance!

Delimiter customization

Right now the only delimiter is a semicolon. Letting the user pick their own would be a neat feature. But I would kind of like to bring the input closer to the command line, and have the option to only require a space between arguments.

Possibly a toggle between using space as the delimiter, or setting one's own character for the delimiter?

add option for startpage as search engine

a lot of people like using privacy based search engines, but startpage.com 's results are way better than duck duck go. Or maybe a custom search engine allowance.

Restore Defaults Button Not Working

In the options menu, the Restore Defaults button doesn't work, it doesn't do anything and is not clickable. Tested in Chrome and Firefox.
