Starting ubervisor hangs when socket file is present

Taking on @felix-molitor's suggestion and noting issues with ubervisor here.

I had this problem on one of our servers where ubervisor fails to start if /var/run/ubervisor/socket exists.

To reproduce:

$ sudo touch /var/run/ubervisor/socket
$ sudo /etc/init.d/ubervisor start
 * Starting ubervisor ubervisor  # Hangs indefinitely
$ sudo rm /var/run/ubervisor/socket
$ sudo /etc/init.d/ubervisor start
 * Starting ubervisor ubervisor               
chdir to: /etc/ubervisor/dumps
logfile: /var/log/ubervisor.log
socket: /var/run/ubervisor/socket
loading dump from /etc/ubervisor/config

It wasn't easy to figure out why this was happening. An error message would be helpful here. Even better would be if ubervisor could recover from this automatically.
