ksmrd-modded-realtek-audio-drivers's Issues

Still postprocessing w/ XPS 9570

Hi
I have KSMRD installed, followed the instructions on the reddit page and the extras on the release page. I can't seem to hear a difference between original audio and new audio. The audio popup is gone, but I believe there is some weird Waves stuff lurking in the background (I have however disabled all Waves/Realtek startup services). I know that the KSMRD driver is in action as control panel shows that the driver is not digitally signed. Any ideas?

DELL XPS 9570 audio

I would really appreciate if you could help me fix the sound issue on my DELL.

Here is the ID: INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0298&SUBSYS_1028087C

Thank you so much!

Please add support for DELL XPS 15 7590 :)

I have just attempted installation on the XPS 15 7590, and experienced the error: "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! [Error Code: -0001]". Is this due to it not being supported or something else?

Problems installing driver on XPS 15 9550

I tried this installing the driver on a XPS 9550 and I got an error during the installation. It installs the main program files but when it begins to install the driver it gives the following error "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! [Error Code: -0001]". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the hardware ID's, would they work ?

Thank you.

Driver Update

Hi, there is a newer driver package version, labeled PG465, and it also supports 32-bit (for those who use it).
This is taken from the Dell Vostro 3568 drivers (the driver version here is 6.0.1.8403).

By the way, do you think that it is would be possible to enable seperate outputs for internal and external speakers (and to possibly allow simultaneus output)?

Audio on either left or right channel gets completely scrambled (random noise) after closing an ASIO4ALL application

This is a huge issue for me as a music producer using FL Studio, and happens quite often, both on stock Dell Realtek drivers, and KSMRD stable / experimental.

EDIT: Probably fixed by changing powersettings again like we were doing originally in v1 of KSMRD?
For me, the new location for powersettings (ConservationIdleTime, etc) is at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0018\PowerSettings but it may be in a slightly different location for others.

If you're on KSMRD experimental branch you can find the subfolder that contains the relevant powersettings by searching for "KSMRD Audio" in the registry. If this doesn't resolve the random noise issue, perhaps setting all other audio related powersettings under Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\ will fix it.

This is just some theories and a place for me to note it down, I need to test it.
Currently testing just Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0018\PowerSettings keys set to FF FF FF FF

Prepare for future development

Could you try to write down what you did and how you did it so that when you might someday ultimately decide to abandon this project someone else can pick up where you left off?
Looking at commit history the changes feel like black magic and I'm sure lot of research was put into getting this project where it's at.

Headset Microphone

Is there any way to enable the use of a headset microphone instead of the built-in one on a xps 15 9570?

Add support for XPS 13 9350?

I've been trying basically everything I can find to make this darn laptop's audio not sound like complete rubbish or blow my ears out. This seems like the solution, though I can't install it at the moment - the installer returns with "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! [Error Code: -0001]"

My hardware ID is INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0256&SUBSYS_10280704

I'm happy to do testing etc. if needed.

XPS 13 9370 Support

I see that you show the XPS 13 9370 as "probably" supported. Here's the hardware ID (second line) for the XPS 13 9370 that I have just received from Dell. Does this help determine if your driver supports this hardware?

Potential alternate method to disable MaxxAudioPro on official Dell drivers

I think I've found a method to disable MaxxAudioPro whilst using Dell's official drivers.

"FX Configurator" from this package called "APO Driver" (Link: https://puresoftapps.blogspot.com/2018/04/realtek-apo-driver.html") is a tool which allows the re-configuration of sound driver APOs. It works by modifying the current audio driver installation (probably registry keys?). This thing is intended to be used for sideloading unofficial APOs (I am not recommending nor endorsing this), but for us Dell users we can use it to get rid of the problematic MaxxAudioPro which Dell has forced upon us.

I own a 9570. I tried using the tool on the very latest official Dell audio driver Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_FMM28_WIN_6.0.1.8642_A05.

Method:

  1. Run FX Configurator
  2. Click Product Config Tool
  3. I tried applying Realtek System Effects - UAD
  • I can't tell the difference between Realtek System Effects - UAD and Realtek System Effects - HDA, but I think they effectively do the same job as all the GUIDs related to MaxxAudio (all of them??) get removed.
  1. Wait for Windows Audio Service to restart, and test audio. Changes are persistent and permanent unless the audio driver is updated.
  2. Optional? Install the Realtek Audio Console from https://github.com/alanfox2000/realtek-universal-audio-driver which lets you configure headset/earphone microphone input via audio jack. (direct install from Store not working for me).

Audio seems better now, IMO about the same the KSMRD audio driver. i.e. I still get an occasional stutter with either methods.

My theory:
So, perhaps all that is needed to disable MaxxAudio could just be a registry patch, to remove the MaxxAudioPro GUID from the APO list... or whatever this tool does? I'm not sure what else the KSMRD driver edits are exactly, but to me the result is the same.

ps. There is a "Waves Audio Effects Component" in Device Manager. Anyone know if this does actually does anything - as disabling it appears to have no effect?

Hope this helps other Dell laptop users out there. You'd expect sound to 'just work' for a $2000+ laptop in 2018.

Built-in laptop microphone missing / Reversing possible?

Just installed the latest modded KSMRD drivers, however, the built-in microphone on my 9570 is no longer appearing/working. Did it get removed along with the MaxxAudio tumor? Is there a way to use the built-in mic with these drivers?

Also, I noticed that the mic input stuttering happens when I'm closer to the mic (and thus louder) compared to when I was leaning back in my chair, further away (so my voice input was quieter to the other person).

My hypothesis is that it's possibly due to either signal processing from the driver to try and level mic input/volume/acoustics, OR, perhaps when the driver detects a much louder or intense volume (or highly contrasting input), it scrambles for some more CPU to handle the extra processing it deems necessary, but because the MaxxAudio cruft is poorly optimized or coded, it's handling of this process is clunky, resulting in interruptions in the processing->signal-passing-along where it was asking the CPU for more processing time, or opening up bigger buffers to handle the processing/caching/whatever.

But my best guess would be the driver trying to do leveling on the input, but when voice input is quieter or further away, because it's a softer or more steady sound, it decides it doesn't have to do any leveling and so the stutters and warbles don't happen.

Could this be the case?

If so -- and assuming the built-in mic can't be used with the modded drivers -- would it be possible to get around the stuttering by tweaking the mic input processing of the driver, whether through an app or perhaps even registry tweaks? Like if there was a way to tell the driver to not bother applying any leveling or processing on mic input no matter how loud or jarring or dynamic it thinks the input is.

If not possible via the app or anything user-facing, I would think it'd be possible from a reverse-engineering standpoint, reversing the driver to "flip a switch" that prevents the driver from doing any processing or leveling on mic input. OR, reversing to force a flag or bit that makes the driver see all mic input as a constant, smooth, steady volume, so it never bothers putting its hands into the dough.

Thoughts?

I have a dell inspiron 7791 2 in 1, I'm looking for a solution to my what I think are dpc latency issues, according to LatencyMon, I'm having problems with real time audio and other task, it also states, one or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in my system appear to be executing for too long. After purchasing this expensive laptop without any option to return, I'm hoping you can please help.

Hello Kevin, could you please add HardwareID to your modded driver?

Would be great to get rid of crappy dell\realtek drivers=)

What about realtek UAD drivers?

I currently switched to realtek's UAD driver (really small, compared to HDA driver, but only works on x64 windows 10). MaxAudio cannot recognize the driver installed, prompting to update drivers.
