unable to recognize "database/deployment/database-deployment.yaml"

I get the following error:

/k8s-medium kubectl apply -f database/deployment/database-deployment.yaml
error: unable to recognize "database/deployment/database-deployment.yaml": no matches for kind "Deployment" in version "extensions/v1beta1"

is apiVersion: apps/v1 the correct one?

Should you be exposing the Database service with an external IP?

Im coming from the mobile world (iOS / Android) so forgive me if these questions seem a little newbie.

I noticed that the Mongo service has an external IP attached to it after following this tutorial. Isn't this dangerous and shouldn't you safeguard your DB from external access?
