NTBTask

A Cocoa class for running shell commands, supporting asynchronous I/O. Specifically it's a wrapper for NSTask making it simpler to use.

Installation

Add NTBTask.h and NTBTask.m to your project.

Usage

Get output from command

NTBTask *task = [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"env"];
NSString *output = [task waitForOutputString];

Send input to command

NTBTask *task = [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"cat"];
NSString *input = @"What goes in, must come out";
[task write:input];
NSString *output = [task waitForOutputString];

Add arguments

task.arguments = @[ @"testing testing", @"123" ];

Run shell script

NTBTask *task = [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"bash"];
NSString *slowscript = @"echo 'sleeping for 0.3'\n"
			"sleep 0.3\n"
			"echo 'sleeping for 0.3'\n"
			"sleep 0.3\n"
			"echo 'sleeping for 0.3'\n"
			"sleep 0.3";
[task writeAndCloseInput:slowscript];
[task launch];

Get continuous output

NTBTask *task = [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"cp"];
NSString *tempdir = NSTemporaryDirectory();
task.arguments = @[ @"-Rpnv", @".", tempdir ];

NSMutableString *result = [[NSMutableString alloc] init];

task.outputHandler = ^(NSString *output)
{
	[result appendString:output];
	[self newOutputAvailable:output];
};
task.completionHandler = ^(NTBTask *thistask)
{
	[self doSomethingWhenCopyingIsFinished];
};

[task launch];

Automatically find launch path for command.

Lets you do [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"echo"];
instead of [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"/bin/echo"];

also rename initWithLaunchPath to initWithCommand?

Prevent environment from being nil before task is launched.

If the environment is fetched before task is launched, run /usr/bin/env to get the environment the task will have when it is running. Or see if there is a Cocoa way to get it. ProcessInfo for instance.

WebDav

I'm trying to use /sbin/mount_webdav and
getting this error output:

usage: mount_webdav [-i] [-s] [-S] [-o options] [-v <volume name>] <WebDAV_URL> node

In implementationfile of mount_webdav 'http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/webdavfs/webdavfs-252.8/mount.tproj/mount_webdav.c'

this error occurs when argc < 2; means when given arguments counting less than two.

here is my code:

    NTBTask *task = [[NTBTask alloc] initWithLaunchPath:@"/sbin/mount_webdav"];
    task.arguments = @[ @"-i", @"'https://MYSERVER.TLD:443/WDav/'", @"/Users/me/Desktop/MountPoint" ];

    NSMutableString *result = [[NSMutableString alloc] init];

    task.outputHandler = ^(NSString *output)
    {
        [result appendString:output];
    };
    task.completionHandler = ^(NTBTask *thistask)
    {
        NSLog(@"Finished");
    };

    [task launch];

What I'm doing wrong?
