ca-archive's Introduction

About

This catalog contains 93,598 versions of 19,450 Firefox add-ons created by 14,274 developers over the past 15 years using XUL/XPCOM technology before Mozilla decided to ruin the classic extensions ecosystem and go exclusively to WebExtensions.

Who creates these add-ons?

The add-ons listed here have been created by a wide range of developers from individual hobbyists to large corporations and were reviewed by a team of AMO editors before being released. Add-ons marked as Experimental have not been reviewed and should be installed with caution.

The source of data

All the data contained in this catalog was obtained from publicly available sources such as AMO, Wayback Machine and other open Internet directories and collections. Cloud storage is kindly provided by Zetamex Network.

ca-archive's Issues

Backup extensions installers (~ 27 GB)

Currently master branch include only catalog, but there NO any archived *.xpi.

Is it possible also backup all *.xpi packages? It's look like total size of all extensions should be ~ 27 GB.

NOTE

Only 2 weeks left before AMO will remove all *.xpi(XUL) extension packages!

Deadline: October 1, 2018

NOTE: After September 5, 2018 submission of updated add-ons to official AMO dissabled!

It's nice but ...

putting an entire website into an extension is the wrong approach. Even when it is changed later to point to a non-AMO site, it will still require users to update the 39MB extension to see one new extension. I hate to see you put the time in on making an extension when it really should be a website. If we get more or less the same thing hosted on an alternate website with it's own repository, then I'm not only in favor of it, I'd be willing to help.

Endless database provisioning with SeaMonkey

I observed with unzipped installer of unofficial (by wg9s) en-US SeaMonkey 2.53 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 Build 20181125130004 (Default Classic Theme, German Language Pack INACTIVE) on German WIN7 64bit:
After some efforts (see other issue) I was able to install and launch the add-on, but there was no visible progress in 'database provisioning', and SeaMonkey had no visible CPU consumption. So I wonder whether there is a real work being done. Only "dead" web page browser view? https://unofficialseamonkeynews.files.wordpress.com/2019/01/screenshot_database.png

Waterfox + Tab Mix Plus + e10s

Running Tab Mix Plus..

When clicking on the Icon it tries to open a new complete window browser ( so two session are open)
As Tab Mix Plus force links to open in new tab the address cant be defined / incomplete

xpi file(s) for Add-on Compatibility Reporter – caa:addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter

caa:addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter

Maybe a question for @MrAlex94 … please, is add_on_compatibility_reporter-2.2.4-fx.xpi amongst the files that will be available to a future release of the Classic Add-ons Archive extension?

Background

https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ was removed by its author a few months ago and AMO ceased to host the .xpi files, but 2.2.4 is amongst the releases at https://github.com/mozilla/addon-compatibility-reporter/releases

Search Engine

Hello JustOff,

First thanks a million for this addon, its amazing to see all those data surviving... indeed this will be somehow temporary because devs can not interact with it nor update addon but at least we will keep some very important data...

The search engine seems to bypass tags and description, when reinstalling my config i find my self searching with AMO instead of CA-A because of the search engine, is it possible easily to include description and tags to searched world, also if possible returning result for any word like AMO search do i know that your search way is better and more correct, but we have more chance to find what we look for with an overloaded result, like AMO do... what do you think ?

:) 👍

caa:list?sort=created does not list the newest

1.1.4 with Waterfox 56.2.3 on FreeBSD-CURRENT

Newest extensions

caa:list?sort=created has (for example) at the head of the list,

caa:addon/web-health-study

Released on July 18, 2017

I guess, the link to Newest is redundant.

versions/beta

Spun off from https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/995urt/-/e507wuu/

… beta versions and the like … removed from AMO …

https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/lastpass-password-manager/versions/beta (for example) previously listed alpha/beta versions of LastPass, including https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/addons/8542/lastpass_password_manager-4.2.0.8a-an+fx.xpi, so stepping beyond

  • caa:addon/lastpass-password-manager/versions/

– (nothing more recent than 4.1.67 listed by release 1.1.4 (2018.09) of ca-archive) I experimented:

  • caa:addon/lastpass-password-manager/versions/beta/

No listing.

Please: might a future release of the archive extension – maybe through the integration with Waterfox – gain access to an archive of (at least some of) the versions that Mozilla ceased to serve a few months ago?

Retrospective

From Discontinuing support for beta versions | Mozilla Add-ons Blog (2018/02/28):

… discontinuing support for this feature in the next month. …

If it helps, compare with https://forums.lastpass.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=279075#p991595 (2018-04-03) which observed that at least one of the LastPass betas was still in Mozilla's CDN more than a month after the February blog post.

video block by lemon rice

hi, does anyone have or know where to get the last non webextension version
of lemonrices video blocker addon? specifically 5.2.2?

Basilisk compatibility

After installing "Classic Addon Archive" on Basilisk 201809, and launching it, CA-archive displays the error "Multiprocess mode is not supported now...."

However, Basilisk doesn't support Electrolysis (e10s, multi-process browsing) and check about:support I have
Multiprocess Windows = 0/1 (Disabled)
Any workaround?

There's really not enough info in Readme.md

It doesn't provide any information on usage. That I have to search for a button of unidentified appearance and click it. Of course this means the button's appearance is not shown either. So one needs to resort to a lot of guessing and/or googling.

Small typo...

throw "CA Archive database has jast been updated, not ready or corrupted!";

jast => just

Noticed it today by chance, when loading the extension after latest update!
Highly appreciative of your on-going hard efforts to keep the legacy extension ecosystem alive 👍

Signing the add-on ca-archive.xpi

Hello.

Would you please sign the add-on ca-archive-2.0.1.xpi?

P.S. I can turn off the verification of digital signatures. But I think that it is more correct to sign an add-on, and not to disable the verification of digital signatures of add-ons.

Thank.

Please update for Waterfox 56.2.5

I'm unable to install this addon. I downloaded the zip of the master branch and renamed to xpi. It says "This add-on could not be installed because it appears to be corrupt."

Offline Mirror

Please can you provide some help for building offline mirror of ca-archive? May be make a torrent for extensions archive,or something.

Moving XPI downloads to own infrastructure

I would simply suggest to host the XPI files in a GitHub repository instead of the links to AMO.

AMO will remove legacy extensions somewhere in the near future, probably.

Adding new add-ons

Hello.

Is it possible to add new versions of existing legacy add-ons and new legacy add-ons to this archive?
This is needed for loyal users of the old versions of Firefox.

Thank.

Malwarebytes false positive

malwarebytes keeps flashing up a warning blocking ca-archive.biz -
reason = fraud.
I know some *.biz links are used for bitcoin/mining scams so it's probably something related to that.
I've removed the addon for now.

[feature request] when zooming, not fixed width

When zooming, the wight stays fixed, so you can't see one side. Very annoying when sites do this. It would be nicer, if when zooming you can still see the whole wight. Like wikipedia.... It's just a css edit....

Can't intall some addons from ca-archive

These addons don't want to be installed .
They open tthe "install" pop up but stay frozen at this state:

  • Thumbnail Zoom Plus 4.2
  • IdentFavIcon 0.3.4.7.1

That's strange because on some of my test profiles "Thumbnail Zoom Plus 4.2"
is installed and work perfectly.

I use Waterfox 56.2.8

Please include database field to enter whether a License can be considered free, not free or doubtful

I looked through the database, just roughly. There are licenses of the type
Multiple: 1 which is indeed free
Proprietary: 16 which can't be hosted
Copyrighted: 137 which can't be hosted
Custom: 672 a lot of which are actually free but have to be reviewed individually
And a lot of individual license types which have to be reviewed individually. If in doubt, its unfree :(
Whoever wants to host these addons would need to distinguish. It's 1472 licenses in the db so that's doable. I'm not saying you should do it, just provide the entry field and index.

Improve search

Currently the search in CAA is very simple, as it's based on the extension name only. I don't think we should consider tags when execute search queries, but searching among descriptions can be really useful.

However, full-text search requires significant changes in the database and the corresponding functions that I do not have time to do at the moment.

Perhaps someone else could have contributed to this.

CA-archive button disappeared, addon not usable anymore

Hi!

The button disappeared from the toolbar. It's not even present in the repository. There's no way to use it anymore. I'm using waterfox
Some more robustness and configurability would be nice. A (configurable) hotkey, for circumstances like this, and I don't like having a button anyway for something that's rarely used and only provides a single feature.
There should be definitely a button to open CAA in about:addons. Either in the main addon's list or CAA's own section.

Google search link fix

current page has till v1.5.4, which supports till FF52 and not working at all.
caa:addon/google-search-link-fix

since im using CAA i couldnt think to check AMO for a legacy addon. but somehow i ended there and found newer versions with support FF42+

would be good to add those versions to CAA if possible
thank you for saving those richness, thank you JustOff

Unexpected appearance of foreign text under 'About this Add-on'

A minor cosmetic issue. Close wontfix, if you like …

caa:addon/speed-dial

– for example, presents zh-CN (Chinese, simplified) text:

有了Speed Dial,您可以很方便地访问您最常用的网站。要显示Speed Dial标签页,使用Speed Dial按钮(按钮可以添加到工具栏),或在地址栏输入"chrome://speeddial/content"。
要指定一个网页到Speed Dial,使用“书签”菜单中新加的“设置为Speed Dial”选项,或右键单击您想要添加的标签页,选择“设置为Speed Dial”。定制工具栏菜单中的这个选项也可用。
Speed Dial将自动载入到一个新的空白窗口,它也可以载人到新的空白标签页。要配置该项以及其他选项,请使用扩展设置面板。

2018-10-07 23 17 56 speed dial classic add-ons archive - waterfox

The same text is:

Google Analytics still active.

Privacy Badger ver. 2019.2.19 (WebExtension) used in Waterfox 56.2.8 shows the following trackers when browsing the Classic Add-on Archive:

www.google-analytics.com
pagead2.googlesyndication.com

I know that Mozilla used those trackers to monitor add-on downloads and the general usage of the site, but I think those aren't necessary in Classic Add-on Archive, are they? :-) Probably an oversight, please remove those trackers.

Thank you.

Provide built-in author pages

After removing the classic add-ons from the AMO, the authors' pages no longer provide relevant information, so this functionality should be built into CAA.

This is especially important after completing #43.

Inclusion of 'Add-on home page' links

For example,

  • caa:addon/addons-manager-hilite

– includes a link to (404, not found) http://www.shadetreeapiary.com/extension/aomhilite/ that was:

  1. present in October last year at https://web.archive.org/web/20171031052715/https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/addons-manager-hilite/
  2. not present in July this year at https://web.archive.org/web/20180706032353/https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/addons-manager-hilite/

Please: was the rationale to include a previously given link, if no link was given when the database was updated? (That would certainly be reasonable, helpful in many cases.)

Or did I simply stumble across a 404 edge case?

Maybe support searching for authors or show their addons when clicking their name

Hi!

It would be nice if I could check out users other addons. At present when I click on the user name the link takes me to AMO proper, to a most likely empty profile page (since all the classic addons were removed)

It would be neat if I could just click their user name and get a list of their addons as a result.
(Especially if I remember that I want something from that user, but I can't remember the name)

Difficult to use with SeaMonkey

I observed with unzipped installer of unofficial (by wg9s) en-US SeaMonkey 2.53 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 Build 20181125130004 (Default Classic Theme, German Language Pack INACTIVE) on German WIN7 64bit:
Simply renaming downloaded .zip to .xpi will not work. When I try to install SM complains "seems to be corrupted". I had to unzip. zip the contained folder ca-archive-master again and to rename it to ca-archive-master.xpi
Installation of that add-on woks fine, new item will be added to menu 'Tools' and clicking that item opens a new TAB in Browser.
