If I'm on monitor#2 on macOS Sierra/High Sierra - licecap captures a black screen on monitor#2.
if I have monitor#2 connected, monitor#1 records black screen. i have to yank out monitor#2 to be able to get a non-blackscreen version from LiceCap.
Detail: I do see my cursor moving in the animated gif, but everything else is black :)
Sometimes, while capturing (e.g. a terminal) it would be useful not to capture the mouse cursor.
It would be nice to be able to save output to MP4, which does not loop endlessly by default (and is smaller).
cannot record the screen clearly in a retina mac.
Hello,
I really like licecap, but when I'm at office, I'm not admin on my desktop, so could you please provide the portable version of licecap ?
Thx.
Some people might like the current font old-fashion pixelated font. But I'd like to use more modern fonts. At least, something like Arial or Helvetica or San Fransisco (on Mac). It'd be better if we could pick any fonts from standard font dialog of the operating system.
Thank you.
How about a linux port!
Licecap 1.28
OSX 10.11.6
Pressing ctr+alt+p doesnt work on OSX and well as that global shift+space stated on the home page. Both do nothing while recording.
The checkbox in record settings doesnt activate it.
..or with a screenshot like skitch which uses cmd + shift + 5
That would be ja handy feature in my eyes!
Thanks
Hi there. First of all thank you for making such an awesome piece of software and for making it open source. This is much much appreciated! ~:-)
I was just wondering if it is possible, maybe in a future release, to make APNG files as output option as well.
Is it possible to donate to have certain feature requests implements for future releases? If so please let us know.
Thank you very much.
The official website lists 1.25 as the latest version for Mac, however the latest commit mentions version 1.28. Can you use GitHub's Releases to provide the latest binaries to the community?
I was looking to download licecap
is there anybody faced issues to download it?
On a 4K monitor when I move mouse outside of Licecap window, it records mouse pointer also, although mouse pointer never overlaps licecap window.
How to invoke: If you put licecap window at middle of the screen, record a session and circle mouse pointer around the window, it will record pointer also.
It may have connection to scale factor, I'm using 150% UI Scale.
Windows 10 x64. Trying to create a GIF video. It starts out OK, but when I click a menu option that opens another window, the program stops recording. I have 97 GB free space on the drive I'm saving the video to.
There is active fork at https://github.com/dialex/licecap-CE
This is really really odd and makes program unusable with higher DPI.
There was a Windows 8.1 DPI fix in d7035ae but but clearly didnt work for Windows 7
Its records part of own program frame \o/
OS Windows 7 SP1 up-to-date
Licecap 1.26
Notice the captured coordinates is well off where it should be.
when start, chose a file, and then It starting to record,
but sometimes I have to move the screen or play video to start
and then to start record.
Is auto paused when start record?
When trying to build with XCode, I get the following errors:
/Users/burton/BusFactor1/Software/licecap/WDL/swell/swell-gdi.mm:121:31: Use of undeclared identifier 'CMGetSystemProfile'
/Users/burton/BusFactor1/Software/licecap/WDL/swell/swell-gdi.mm:125:9: Use of undeclared identifier 'CMCloseProfile'
I'm new to MacOS development so I'm unsure of how to fix these errors. Missing framework or include header, maybe?
At commit 7546b1b.
The default installation path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LICEcap
The default save path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LICEcap
But the default path to save the file found by Everything
C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\LICEcap
I'm using licecap on windows 10 x64 pro and enterprise
The issue is even though the max frame rate is high (120) the actual frame rate is low ~30 which makes the generated gif bad looking. Any solutions?
How does one find a Licecap 1.27 build for OSX? @justinfrankel
Hi! This app needs a manifest to avoid high dpi scaling in High resolution screens like on the Surface Pro.
Here is how to add it:
http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-fix-apps-that-look-small-on-high-dpi-and-high-resolution-displays/
I can pull a request with this but probably it is just 10 second editing the manifest before compiling the Windows version
Hi
I installed this APP version 1.25 and tried it on my MAC, but the pause shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+P won't work. The recording won't be paused :-(
Thanks
Best regards
Josef
A simple checkbox "auto-loop" should be enough.
This would make the tool perfect for creating gifs for Twitter, since,
as documented at https://support.twitter.com/articles/20156423:
Why doesn’t my animated GIF play on Twitter?
Twitter supports looping GIFs. If your animated GIF doesn’t loop and
plays a single time, it will display as a static image.
Currently, these gifs have to be uploaded to a third-party site like
img.ur and then linked from the tweet :(
Here they write that they do not exist. Whether so it?
My OS — Windows 10.
First time user here. Thanks for really neat creation!
It all went smoothly except for when recording was finished I needed to find the resulting file. (I had to start yet another recording just to take note where the first recording was stored.) Would be great with some quick link, perhaps next to the "Record" button to open the seleced folder or maybe automatically open folder when finished recording.
Again, thanks for neat creation!

The path C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\LICEcap
is used by default. I'd like to suggest changing this to C:\Users\<username>\Pictures
or something similar, as this seems to me to be a much simpler default path.
When installing this on MacOSx 10.13.5 it gives me two errors. The first is a dialog box from OSx stating that the file needs to be updated. The second is the following from the terminal...
`$ /Applications/LICEcap.app/Contents/MacOS/licecap ; exit;

Sometimes we forget to change the file name of the new gif created by this app. It'd be very handy if the output file name is created with current date and time automatically appended, so the new file won't replace the older file. For example: licecap_record_2018-03-22_22.33.11.gif
Thank you.

When i do recordings and set 25fps while recording it hovers around 15-17fps. How can we get the real FPS number we put in?
Just got this crash when recording to 25fps LCF file:

Why is my gif getting bad quality?
If I place "gif" on the site (github.com), then "gif" is displayed well.
If I open "gif" in the program, then "gif" is displayed poorly.

This is what happens when I try to record. I'm not sure what exactly is causing this issue. What you are seeing is the viewport being 50% to the left, exposing part of the frame. I've tried resizing, restarting, everything to ensure that the problem is not between me and the keyboard. This issue happens randomly too.
I've got a one-time warning that licecap is not optimised for macOS.
"Why am I seeing this alert?
Starting with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4, apps that have not been updated to use 64-bit processes produce a one-time alert when opened. This gives users advance notice that they are running 32-bit software, which will not be compatible with macOS in the future."

Hi
I want to record an action that requires me to select an option from the Finder-Menu, the menu on the top of the desktop (on this case: Go > Utilities). I can only position the Licecap Window above the menu, so, that menu won't be recorded. It would be nice if you included a way of positioning the window behind that menu.
There is a similar App to yours that allows this: Screen-Cast-O-Matic, so, this is possible. You can move the windows behind that menu. I think that the window type must be different. They use some kind of transparent frame. Perhaps there is some possibility to specify windows types on the code.
Thanks
Best regards
Josef
Any chance to capture the full Desktop? Right now it seems this is not possible (LiceCap window can't be sized to fullscreen/desktop size).
LiceCap 1.26
How does this relate to the other repository https://github.com/lepht/licecap which is a couple hundred commits behind and versioned at 1.25 compared to 1.26 here?
Also brew cask
is installing with version 1.25 with url "http://www.cockos.com/licecap/licecap#{version.delete('.')}.dmg"
so it seems to be packaging the older version. This needs a .dmg
file to be packaged for brew cask
.
This is a feature idea.
E.g. when I press [TAB]
or even [ENTER]
, that might not be obvious for the people watching the recording. It would be great to be able to "show" some of these keypresses, similarly to mouse clicks. There could be a label [TAB]
on the top right that appears when I press these buttons.
Hi LICEcap team, your product is very cool! I found that one can insert a short text when pause it,that is very nice, but there is a pity that it displays nothing when the text inserted are Chinese characters(maybe also happens in other languages I think).
I have laptop with doc station and 2 monitors, my admin rights was given me via AD to install the software.
After installation with admin rights the main window of software was not displayed.
Re-run with admin rights - did not help.
Manually creation of empty licecap.ini
in C:\Program Files (x86)\LICEcap
fixed the issue.
Found solution here: https://forum.cockos.com/archive/index.php/t-172452.html
Configuration:

hi i just took 1.27 from http://landoleet.org and gave it a try.
going back to 1.25 since stuff looks like this when recorded on macOS High Sierra.
When trying to use LICEcap on my mac the only output I'm seeing is a black gif and in some captures I can see cursor being tracked. Both of my capture attempts were set to a max FPS of 8 frames.
Steps I've tried:
with shortened capture length and smaller res size:
App is very useful, thank you for spending your time on it.
One minor annoyance is that the record button starts recording immediately. In other screen capture apps (camtasia, jing) they have a useful feature, once you hit record it will count down from 5. The reason this is useful is because it gives me a chance to kick off the action that I want to record right before the recording starts. It would shave off a couple seconds at the beginning of most of my gifs.
Thanks again!
Hi @justinfrankel, I'm attempting to compile this using Xcode 9.1 - and the first thing it tells me is that 10.4 is no longer supported, I switch to 10.6 just to make sure, then I start getting oodles and oodles of errors:
how do I solve this? I'm just looking to look through the Pull Requests so can get a newer icon and see what other things have been fixed, but so far no luck.
