inkjetplumber's Introduction

Inkjet Plumber

Overview

Inkjet Plumber is an application for the Mac that allows you to send a small print job to one or more of your printers at an interval of your choosing. It was written with infrequent inkjet users in mind, allowing you to automatically send a small print job to an otherwise idle inkjet printer.

I make no claims that Inkjet Plumber will prevent clogs or reduce your ink costs, however, it's generally accepted by many people that it's best to exercise your inkjet printer rather than leave idle (or powered off) for long periods of time.

Many Windows users use QImage for this purpose, however, QImage only runs on Windows and I was not able to find a comparable application for the Mac.

Development

Inkjet Plumber is written in C++ using the Qt Framework and built for the Mac OSX operating system. While the Qt Framework is very portable, I do not have access to any Windows systems, so I can only provide an executable build for the Mac operating system at this time.

Downloads

You may download binary releases (dmg file) of Inkjet Plumber from here. Inkjet Plumber also provides auto-update functionality to make sure you stay up-to-date with the development of Inkjet Plumber.

inkjetplumber's Issues

No Auto Print on Schedule

The auto generated print page was not generated on schedule (12 hours from initial install of program) for either of my printers. As soon as I opened the app, the print page then generated for each of the printers. Should I leave the app open all the time? I was thinking it would open itself on the assigned schedule and print the pages. Also, as you probably know, the color squares on the printed pages are still at 1/8th inch square with the numbers offset.

Could you email me at:
[email protected]
and let me know if I should leave the app open? I'm not sure what the protocol is for this website. Thanks,
Russ

Qt version?

What Qt version did you build with? I have very little experience with Qt so I'm not sure if Qt is very strict on versions.

Menubar Icon doesn't do anything when clicked

This is a known limitation for the first development release of Inkjet Plumber. A future update will make this functional and also hide the app from the dock when minimized, etc.

Support A4 paper

Hi can we add support for different paper sizes - here is Australia we have the A series, like A4

printing an orange ink cartridge

I would like to exercise the orange ink cartridge in my Epson P400. Of course the orange ink gets printed using the "CUPS printer driver self test page" which is the recommended output type. That does not use much ink, though, and I live in Phoenix where the inside temperature will be cooled to 90ºF during a two-week absence. To avoid a head clog I would like to print the color and gray squares in the Custom Output Options. But orange is missing from the pallette, and I fear this particular cartridge would clog in the heat.

There are not many printers which incorporate orange ink, so I understand why this has not been seen as an important issue. If it is a simple tweak to the software, I hope you can accommodate us.

App will not wake Macbook Pro (high sierra)

Great app, Jeff - thanks.
I have been testing it while at home. I hope to use it while away on vacation.
Anyway, it is not waking my Macbook Pro (2011) on OS 10.12.6 to automatically print the page.
It will print the page shortly after I wake up the laptop.
I am using a Canon iP8720 with a Samsung laser printer also hooked up through a hub.
Thanks ..... Dave

epson XP7100 fails to print

using Mac release 0.9.15. on OS 13.5.2 using either USB and wireless printer connection.

Wireless gives error:E [09/Nov/2023:13:46:10 -0700] [Client 65] Returning IPP client-error-document-format-not-supported for Send-Document (ipp://localhost:631/printers/EPSON_XP_7100_Series) from localhost.

USB gives error E [09/Nov/2023:13:35:49 -0700] [Client 47] Returning IPP client-error-document-format-not-supported for Send-Document (ipp://localhost:631/printers/EPSON_XP_7100_USB) from localhost.

Printed output is intermittently much smaller than intended

The color swatches on the maintenance job output are designed to be 1/2" x 1/2" squares. The first user to try the initial development release reports that his output is tiny and the color swatches are only 1/8" x 1/8" square.

Need to review printer iniitialization/setup to see if somehow page size or paper size defaults for printer may be coming into play here.
