adapt-web-ui's Issues

Improve Resources Tab

  • add a caption area at the bottom of a table/chart/image, etc modal. Ideally a button to get back to the text section
  • add the plantlist, citations, case studies sheets 1ST PRIORITY
  • add a right left panning option to cycle through table/chart/image (remove index) (in the chart modal)
  • Close resources popover on selection

Improve UI

Clarify map vs. text nav:

  • tooltip for "chapter" and "map layer" and for "toolbox" "map"
  • make radio button stand out more? different color outline?
    Text View
  • make text box wider (does map view even make sense? really hard to read text)
  • add button to next section at end of each chapter

Test site

When we go live, can we make a test area so that we can see if our changes will break the site? Or is there another way to deal with this?

Add basemap

  • Include a better streets basemap (from mapbox account)
  • Add a satellite basemap
  • Set map default zoom to Adapt Oakland Area

Text Styling

Not necessarily an issue but a request.
Text is only styled through header #4.
Add header style for #5.

(Also maybe more size or color distinction between other styles. to discuss)

Onboarding

  • Tutorial on the first page with pop ups and arrows and stuff so people know how to use the website.

Map nav items with no map layers

  • Add items to Map nav that do not correlate to specific map layers, and instead serve to purely navigate the text. - 2ND PRIORITY

Application Error

Ideas?
Is this do to the massive amounts of demand streaming to the site? :)

Basic Analytics

  • Look into alternatives to google analytics
  • Add some basic Analytics

Improve Styles

  • Make grey text more readable (darker or larger or lighten background)
  • Fix header fonts
  • Tighten spacing on navigation so accordion ideally fits on the screen
  • Remove underscores from navigation
  • Random stuff: under 2_Design "existing" is misaligned not sure why

resize windows vertically

because windows don't resize vertically, sometimes you might not realize that the legend is on the map (if your browser window isn't opened all the way). Windows already resize horizontally--should we add a vertical resize as well?

Map Zoom level and resolution different on certain computers

The map looks really bad on certain computers. On my 17" mac book pro it looks great on load. On Avi's 13" Mac Book Pro it looks really bad. It zooms to one small corner of the map area and all the styling looks really large. The points and lines are way too big and you can't see whats what. <Screen Shot 2016-03-19 at 10.13.17 AM.png>

Default map layers

  • map layers will be displayed based on a default display column in the spreadsheet [john] 2ND PRIORITY

Rebuild map nav

  • The menu is always displayed on map or report view [john]
  • It highlights the first map & group by default [ben]
  • Maps will be at the top of the menu, with groups & layers below [john]
  • Each map layer has a separate map display radio column that can be checked on or off. [ben]
  • Clicking on the map layer displays text and content without changing the map. Separatey, clicking on the layer's map display radio button for that layer toggles the layer's map display [ben & john]
  • Groups are accordions which expand to display the list of layers they contain, while maps are persistent. [john]
  • Clicking on a map group turns off any other groups and then turns on the default layers for the given group [ben]
  • Layers, maps, groups, charts, tables, images will be displayed in the order that they are listed in the spreadsheet [john]
  • clicking on a new map should make text return to top of the chapter
  • is it possible to highlight text layer (not radio button) based on what's shown in the text view to clarify function of nav?)
  • so, I tried to add a new map (introduction to adapt oakland case study) which will have the AO boundary, so we don't need to add that to all the other maps. I also numbered the other nav items. I think this needs to be implemented outside of the spreadsheet because it's not working right. Sorry.

NAV does not change when shifting between sections

When you move between sections, (ex. Design to Evaluate) the Table of contents does not change, regardless of whether you hit back and forward button, or a link within the text.
(ex. Ideally Design would close and Evaluate would open)

Loading Spinner + Preload Intro text

The API calls which load all of the site text take a long time to complete. The user can view the site for a while with no text visible. This is not desirable. The 'Home' page text should be preloaded in a separate API call first.

A text box without text to display should display a loading spinner.

Improve Tooltip

The tooltip still needs some work, specifically:

  • align tooltip to cursor
  • collect unique values and layers to avoid repetitive listings in the tooltip

Main headings

I added an Introduction to the top of this text.

We are wondering, can we add this as a heading "Introduction" ?

Or, if not, is it possible that when the button is clicked for 1_Analyze that it will zoom to the header (not the top of the page).

nav items, contact info, links away from site

Email:
The contact icon at bottom left is working.
Icon at top right, is not. Can you fix with the same?

Facebook: directs to plan.adapt, but do we want straight to adapt. also, can we choose an image to add?
Print: is kinda funky, only pronts a page and is overlapping, should we dissable until it works?

I also added a link to a googleform to the "adapt" get involved section for more detailed response.

FYI.

Link to form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NO4sPx3G9R3Wq4bK1wu8Ajj8AP1rirsTIiCOEaaJuto/viewform

Html of form.

<iframe src="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NO4sPx3G9R3Wq4bK1wu8Ajj8AP1rirsTIiCOEaaJuto/viewform?embedded=true" width="760" height="500" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0">Loading...</iframe>

Missing Charts

  • only the example chart is showing up on the 1_Analyze, not sure why other charts are missing

Glitch when scaling text

After you have selected an image form the resource section, whenever you try to scale the text box up or down, an image randomly pops up. It only seems to happen after you've selected something already from the resource area.

Links not working

List of link problems:
introduction
menu: adaptation_framework -- not appearing

toolbox
1st link on new toolbox menu was greyed out and not working. I fixed the links in the google doc to remove "plan" and reuploaded. I noticed elsewhere in the text adding plan does work on the website, so I added it back to one of the links. Still doesn't work. All the links are now broken again. I opened one of the links in a new tab it reads: http://localhost:8080/adapt/toolbox#adaptation_strategies

analyze

design
The first link "adaptation strategies" opens the toolbox on the website, but does not go to the #
in Menu: stakeholder-specific strategies does not go to #
none of the map layers seem to be working in this section

monitor

menu: climate_justice_academy # does not appear, although it's on the spreadsheet
implement
Menu: financial_evaluation -- not appearing in menu
Menu: adapt_oakland_area_evaluation -- not appearing in menu
