3dr-simple-delta-printer's Introduction

3DR "Simple" Delta Printer

This is a derivative of RichRap's 3DR Delta printer, but redesigned from scratch to be printable from a Printrbot Simple (hence the name), and to use the Simple's parts in order to build this printer. You can find his original files here: https://github.com/RichRap/3DR-Delta-Printer

Current Status

This is very much a work in progress. The SolidWorks files are built with version 2011, and represent a work in progress. The original STL files I checked in are what I've built so far.

3dr-simple-delta-printer's Issues

Auto-Level Probe?

Can the auto-leveling feature available on a lot of these delta-style printers work with this design?

Stepper wire management is hindered by endstop placement

The port to pass the stepper wires under the top of the printer is on the same side as the endstop mount. This makes routing those wires a bit tough as you have to squeeze them between the gap left by the endstop mount.

Moving the endstop mount just to the other side should provide the same functionality without hindering wire management.

Integrate screw "towers" with walls for more strength

The screw towers that hold the electronics seem like they are potentially fragile. The print such that sheering forces would be applied to the layer bonds, running the risk of delamination.

They are awfully close to the walls already. It seems some extra material could be added to join them with the walls directly.

BOM for additional components

I want to try this, but I am still unaware of the parts needed beside the electrical components.
Can you please list the parts like the rods, and any additional hardware besides the 3dprinted needed?
