copyasmarkdown's Introduction

Copy As Markdown

This is a Chrome Extension used to copy the element in current page as markdown format.

Usage

You can select any element with html format in the current page and then click the extension icon, the relative text with markdown format will be written into the clipboard. When you select nothing in the page, the page's link will be written to the cliboard, the content is like this: [window.title](location.href).

You can use the shortcut Alt + C. If needed, you can custom the shortcut for the extension in Chrome's tab chrome://extensions/.

copyasmarkdown's Issues

Idea - To copy the web address additionally

Your extension is awesome! I had an idea that while copying contents from websites, it would be better if the extension automatically captures the website address to the clipboard along with the copied content. This would help in providing the source of the copied contents.

Expand relative links

Currently relative links aren't expanded, which makes them significantly less useful.

For example, this HTML from Wikipedia:

A MIME multipart message contains a <a href="/wiki/Delimiter#Content_boundary" title="Delimiter">boundary</a> in the "Content-Type: " header

...is copied as the following Markdown:

A MIME multipart message contains a [boundary](/wiki/Delimiter#Content_boundary "Delimiter") in the "Content-Type: " header

I can't paste this Markdown on another site without the link breaking. I would prefer for the link to be expanded, yielding this Markdown instead:

A MIME multipart message contains a [boundary](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delimiter#Content_boundary "Delimiter") in the "Content-Type: " header

Port to firefox

This is an excellent extension! I really want to move to firefox and stop using chrome as firefox has become more secure browser. Please port this to firefox.

Use reMarked.js

Try using reMarked.js since it has some test coverage and a bit more extended support. like github code fences and even tables.

embed images

It would be nice if images could be inlined as base64.

So something like

![Hello World](data:image/png;base64,SOMEBASE64STRING…)

This way the saved content would be complete even if the referenced images aren't available anymore.

PS: thank you so much for CopyAsMarkdown!
