rpnotify - libnotify song notifications for Radio Paradise

Description

Displays 'Now Playing' song notifications from Radio Paradise. Useful if you want to use the Ogg Vorbis or other streams without embedded song metadata.

Permissive: see rpnotify itself for the licence text

Using

Make sure you have the following installed:

perl
a libnotify notification daemon

perl modules:

Gtk2::Notify
LWP::UserAgent
Readonly
XML::Simple
Log::Log4perl
HTML::Entities

Make sure you have a libnotify notification daemon running (most modern GNU/Linux desktops will have this).

Run the script:

$ ./rpnotify

Press Ctrl-C to stop it.

non-ASCII character fail

Looks like chumby.xml is UTF-8 (although there is no explicit declaration in the XML or HTTP headers).

A song title with an é caused the whole message to not be displayed on my gnome desktop. The console log displayed a � for the same character.

needs to escape/process data before sending to notification daemon?

Hmm. A song title with an & results in an empty update message. I guess there is some HTML processing going on here. Need to check what the actual specification for messages is.
