We could simply offer an API that use <any> everywhere. mix<T> or patch<T> versions may be useful, not sure.

patches is (now) a sub-case of mix, only merging objects. mix can do that and use transforms too.

The build currently needs NPM_TOKEN defined and that variable is defined in Travis.

I think it's actually quite a pain to have this .npmrc file with an undefined token variable for something that is only used for publishing releases on npm. A thing we could do is to only generate that fine before deploying:

 echo "//registry.npmjs.org/:_authToken=$NPM_TOKEN" > .npmrc

We could use npm link to run the example against the code in the git repo itself:

# in root directory
$ sudo -E rpm link
# in each example
$ npm link @jkcfg/mixins
