remap-omen-key's Issues

Did not work (continue in Chinese)

#3 (comment)

我把软件放到C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Home\send-home.exe
计算机\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\HP System Event\Bezel Button\8613
任务管理器没显示send-home.exe;
HPMSGSVC.exe有显示;
现在不知道是哪里弄错了

It's worked, but losted focus!

With the most recent HP System updates, this has stopped working.

My Omen installed an update from HP via Windows Update 2 days ago and now the registry 8613 redirection that send-home relies on seems to no longer work.

It keeps insisting on wanting to install an Omen Command Center app from the AppStore which I promptly uninstalled but the old behaviour was not restored. The Omen Command Center wasn't an App store packaged app previously so I'm guessing that's the cause of the change.

It seems to be ignoring the 8613 mapping and always using an omencommandcenter protocol in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. I tried adding send-home as the shell/open/command handler for that instead which stops it nagging about the App store but the home key only works at the console (and much more slowly then before) but not inside other GUI applications, largely because I think shell/open/command is taking the focus elsewhere first. Grrrr!

Any ideas?

I'm not sure how to revert to the old HP System Event version or if that's even possible without nasty side effects.

Can I remap omen key on ubuntu 16.04?

I find this project remapping omen key with registry , which only works on Windows.
So I am wondering whether there is a method to make it work on my Ubuntu system.
Thanks in advance!
ps.
Since that your location showed in Github is China and your id is Chinese Pinyin, I also translate the above issue into Chinese for you.
请问能否在Ubuntu系统上将OMEN键映射为Home?

Does't work

Hi, I read the last update that indicates that you have to have the HP System Event Utility with HPMSGSVC.exe, but I can't find a version with that executable, could you help me with a version that you use to make this work?

Thank you

Did not work

Using Windows 10.

First, the driver "HP System Event Utility" must be installed.

I followed this step, I downloaded and installed from here https://hp-system-event-utility.en.lo4d.com/windows, it was the first result.

Download send-home.exe and put it in a fixed location.

Then I downloaded this and put it in folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Home since that's where HP System Event Utility driver seems to be installed just to keep it in the same location.

Run regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\HP System Event\Bezel Button\8613, and change the value of ApplicationPath to the path of the downloaded program.

Yup, changed the value of said Application to C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Home

To resolve this issue, run taskschd.msc and create a basic task:

Name: HP Message Service
Trigger: When I log on
Action: Start a program
Program: "C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP System Event\HPMSGSVC.exe"

Created said basic task, with program: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP System Event\HPMSGSVC.exe"

Double-click the created task and enable "Run with Highest Privileges".

Yup. I've tried to right click and run it. I ran HPMSGSVC.exe as admin. Also tried the same with send-home.exe. And now I'm confused and lost and don't know what has gone wrong. I've tried restarting. Please help.

Is this repository still maintained?

I saw that a 2.0 was created 3 month ago. Is this branch fully functionnal? if not, will it receive updates? Is the custom client 1.1 still supposed to work? Is there any way to help?

Thanks in advance for your reply, apreciate your work.

Omen Sequencer macro keys trigger Home.

It turns out not just that omen key, but also all the P1 - P5 keys send the F24 keystroke,

I don't know exactly how the software handles it but whenever a macro is used it ends up as a home key press.

No HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP...

Hi

I'd like to know whether this solution is still working or not.

I got an Omen 15.

Before installing HP System Event Utility I checked there was a "HP System Event Utility" proccess, then I looked for the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP... in registry but it did't exist..

I installed a new "HP System Event Utility" from http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81404.exe but the registry entry still doesn't exist.

I'd thank any idea.

Regards
Carlos

"HP System Event" does not use registry path - could not define any exe to be launched

I downloaded "HP System Event" from https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp70001-70500/sp70439.exe and installed it.
The sp70439.exe created the folder "C:\SWSetup\SP70439" where it put installers like "HPSystemEventUtility.msi" which are called to install the files under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP System Event".
After the installer finishes there is nothing happening. Not even HPMSGSVC.exe is started. So I start it by double click on it. I would expect either the HPMSGSVC.exe or the installer must have created the registry path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\HP System Event\Bezel Button\8613" but all I can find is...
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HPDIA"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HPSF"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\HPDIA"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\Hpjumpstartappss"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\Hpjumpstartappss"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\Theme Control"
"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows"

The "..\HP System Event\Bezel Button\8613" is not even created after "HPMSGSVC.exe" runs and I pressed the omen key :(

When I create the path on my own the "HPMSGSVC.exe" does not care about it.

How do I turn it off?

It worked, but now I can't use P1-P5 plus the fn hotkeys.
How can I disable that script?

Solution not working on Win11, HP Victus

Dear creator,

Thanks for your efforts! I would really like to replace the Omen key on my HP Victus 16-e0xx with the home key. However, the two offered solutions both do not seem to work.
When I try the standard approach, the registry key I'm supposed to edit does not exist. I searched the registry but haven't been able to find anything like it. I think it might be because the HP program launched by the Omen key changed to a Microsoft Store App? It's called the Omen Gaming Hub now.
When I try the alternative approach, the .exe starts like normal after importing the certificates, but the home key is not remapped. The executable does not show up in the task manager, but when I try to remove the custom client executable it's reported as still running.
If there's any workarounds available they would be very very welcome!
Thanks in advance,

Staals
