csc305-labs's Issues

Useful links for assignment 1

What do we need to do to start off?

I found this tutorial online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG0uEXV6aHQ for procedurally generating terrain using perlin noise.

To start off, are we going to have to do exactly that, but instead of using Mathf.PerlinNoise we will write our own function for finding the perlin noise?

The tutorial uses a "Terrain" object to show the generation. Are we expected to write another ray tracing thing like assignment 1 or are we allowed to use those objects?

Where do we get the 3D models to place on the terrain?

Also, because we had our lab the week before reading break, does that mean there is a lab this week or next week?

TA hours

My TA office hour is 3:00-5:00 every Wednesday at ECS 648, you can come to my TA hours.

Are we allowed to use these libraries?

Are we allowed to use the Math library to calculate square roots and absolutes? Or do you want us to show how we calculate that? Example: Is Math.Abs(some_number); ok?

And what about the magnitude and normalized functions? Example: is vector3 = vector3.normalized; or vector3.magnitude; allowed to be used?

lab schedule for Feb 25-March 1

There will be no labs during Feb 25-March 1, except for that Tuesday grading session cancelled because of snow on Feb 12.

Two common mistakes

  1. the integer division: for example, (int)(3) / (int)(2) will be 1
    however, (float)(3) / (float)(2) will be 1.5

  2. you need to download and import the C# files, do not import the HTML file...
