Customer Website Launched

As part of this course we developed a real website for a real client. Below is a link to the final product. (Note, the site is left without speed optimization to keep it exactly as it was in the course. Site optimization wasn't part of the course).

Lecture 40, part 1 - link in PDF is broken

Lecture 40, Part 1: link error in included PDF
Priyanka NMWeek 4 · 7 hours ago
There's issue with the links in the PDF for this lecture. Instead of "-" the PDF is generating "--" in the urls leading to broken links.

Please rectify.

Although I could reach the following links after cleaning the errors in a text editor.

Git hub doesn't create gh-pages branch automatically anymore

In the video "Development Setup Part 3", when the website is created, git hub automatically creates a gh-branch and puts index.html and some style and json files there.
At the moment, it doesn't do that anymore.
When I tried to create a website, git hub created it in the master branch and just added a .yml file to it.
This might me a little confusing for novices.

Thank you!

Issue regarding assignment

When i uploading the folder after that site is not opening in the browser and not showing the output.
Can you help me sir i am enrolled in this course and completed 2 weeks and stuck in submitting the assignment.

Typo in slide of Lecture 47, part 1

Student pointed out:

a little nitpicky, but it's "vice versa", not "visa versa" (first slides) :) I can see that it's fixed in the transcript though.

Assignment-3.md Bootstrap links to not direct to anchors

In Assignment-3.md, there are links for Bootstrap documentation for:

Bootstrap documentation now uses URLs specific to Bootstrap release versions. As we are using Bootstrap 3.3, I suggest replacing these the links on the page with the following URLs:

Lecture 07/ codes needs correction

Hi, I am taking the coursera course - HTML, CSS, and Javascript for Web Developers. Found that in Lecture07/

  1. The after-ordered-list file was missing
  2. The before-ordered-list file had already tags inserted.

Assignment-3.md Bootstrap links to navbar in step 8 and step 9 redirects to boostrap 4 alerts, type-alignment redirection is also incorrect

  1. The hyperlink - https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.3/components/#navbar in step 8 and step 9 of Assignment-3.md file redirects to https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.3/components/alerts/
Solution : Change the actual URL value from http://getbootstrap.com/components/#navbar (current) to https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.3/components/#navbar (proposed)
  2. The hyperlink - https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.3/css/#type-alignment in step 10 of Assignment-3.md file redirects to https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.4/css/
Solution : Change the actual URL value from http://getbootstrap.com/css/#type-alignment (current) to https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.3/css/#type-alignment (proposed)

Browser sync installing issue

Hi everyone,

I have some issue about the browser sync, I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. I followed the instructions in the video, everything went great until this point. I installed the node, npm looks fine, after that I've done the sudo command, typed my password, press the enter, and thats where the problem is. (I tried without sudo as well, but it is the same)

The terminal says:

npm WARN deprecated [email protected]: Use uuid module instead

/Users/mac/npm-global/bin/browser-sync -> /Users/mac/npm-global/lib/node_modules/browser-sync/bin/browser-sync.js

/Users/mac/npm-global/lib

└── [email protected]

I attached a picture about the versions and this last message.

Can someone help me how can I fix this issue please? I'd like to carry on with the course, but I couldn't do it without the browsersync.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Missing pictures

There are some missing pictures in the version 2 modulo5-solution-starter folder
They are NL4.jpg, NL5.jpg
Also, DK3.jpg, was spelled Dk3.jpg in the github repository.

Lecture 25, part 2: jQuery page shown is different

jQuery 3.x has come out since then and some people may get confused about where to go to download version 2.x. Possibly update the video with the new look of the page.

Note: since we are using Bootstrap 3 in the course, jQuery version needs to stay at 2.x to be compatible.

Lecture 60

script.js
Doesn't work if innerHTML = responseText in this part of code.
function (responseText) {
document.querySelector("#main-content")
.innerHTML = responseText;
}
The result in browser is:
image
But if use responseText.response instead simple responseText, it works well.

The FAQ should include a section on grading

Q. I am late with my assignment, what should I do?
A. See the the week 1 section on grading [include link]

Q. The assignment I am reviewing has a link to the repository (or to somewhere else) and not to the deployed site.
A. Submitting the correct link is part of the assignment. You must grade the assignment 0 and explain in the comments why you have had to do this.

The above answer is the one we always give when people ask this question, and there have been a spate of them recently...

submitting assignment

Unable to clone git

Hello,
I am using Windows, and when I try and clone GIT in the command prompt, I use this command:
C:\Users\rlbeh>$ git clone https://github.com/rbeharry/coursera-test.git

and I get this message:
C:\Users\rlbeh>'$' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
''$'' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

When I remove the $ symbol and use this command:

C:\Users\rlbeh>git clone https://github.com/rbeharry/coursera-test.git
and get this:
fatal: destination path 'coursera-test' already exists and is not an empty directory.

What does this mean? Why am I not able to clone git? What can I do to correct the problem?

JavaScript heap out of memory

Hi there,

I just started the course and I can't go past the intro videos because I keep getting this message "FATAL ERROR: CALL_AND_RETRY_LAST Allocation failed - JavaScript heap out of memory" in Terminal, I looked online and tried to increase my memory limit but it's saying to do this at the root of the project. My webpage also doesn't load correctly, it just gives me a listing directory but my code looks fine when I compare. As a newbie, I don't quite know how to fix this and would appreciate any help so I can move to the next step!

Thank you!

Submissions

Git no longer has a gh pages button so how can we submit our work? the clone link always refers to the master branch!

Lecture 19 - Example Code

The code in box-model-before.html is the exact same as the box-model-after.html code, so there isn't any before code actually present. It doesn't matter to me, but it'd be nice if it were fixed for future students :)
Thanks!

Using 'window' instead of 'global'

In Lecture57 and on, the ajax-utils.js is using 'window' inside the IIFE instead of the passed in 'global' variable. This needs to be fixed in that lecture and any following lectures.

Navbar have to scroll with the page or not?

The next text outside the parenthesis from point 8 in the assignment is opposite to the instruction inside the parenthesis:

Navbar: Create a navbar that scrolls away together with the page (the navbar should become invisible and is not fixed to the top when you scroll the page down).

Complete lecture slides

I am just copying my comment on Coursera to here for your convenience.

I realized that the lecture slides hosted at GitHub are not complete. For example, for Week 1, it misses lectures 4, 7, 9, and 10. I understand some of these lectures are majorly demo based, but I would still love to at least include the summary slide at the end of each lecture to my collection.

Thanks!

Bug: Blur event doesn't fire on Safari and Firefox

In mobile view, we have code that automatically closes the slide down menu when the user click anywhere else on the page. We use blur event for that.

However, on Firefox and Safari, the blur event never fires because the slide down menu button only receives the click even to slide the menu down, but it does not retain focus, so the blur event is useless.

On Chrome, this is not an issue because the button does retain focus after it's clicked.
Here is the code in question.

Whatever the solution, it needs to be carried through to the rest of the lecture examples in the course.

Incorrect use of 'alt' attribute

Lecture 30, part 1, I left an alt attribute right inside of a 'div'. Must have been a leftover from messing around with it off screen and then I "talked right through it", forgetting that there is no such thing as an 'alt' attribute for a div tag.

Fix and edit out of the video.
