When I added CONSOLE support for changing the cursor shape via IOCTL, I did it by writing the CRTC registers directly. Unfortunately that creates incorrect shapes when running BASIC-DOS on newer hardware (eg, with more scanlines). By using the BIOS instead, newer cards should automatically work better, thanks to BIOS cursor emulation—a feature that I had forgotten about. It still isn’t a goal to support hardware newer than the original IBM PC, but when there are simple workarounds like this, it’s a good idea to take advantage of them.

It seems that the project had been pause for more than 1 year.
