rails crashes: libpam thread

Running OSX 10.7 when I try to login rails crashes

In the rails log all I see is

Any ideas as to whether this is an issue with OSX, rpam, or this plug-in?

I tried switching to ruby 1.9.3 (because apparently 1.9.2 had a thread crash issue, but that didn't solve this problem). And, I'm using Rails 3.2.3 and devise 2.0.4.

I'm using a fork of this project that depends on rpam-ruby19 (which is kinda silly since the only serious difference between that and regular rpam is 2 macro calls).

The simple/demo rpam authenticate script doesn't cause this crash and successfully authenticates.

If anyone has an idea of what direction I should look I'll be better equipped to solve this myself but for now I'm stumped.
