I used your code and replaced the RTC functionality with NtpClientLib. This works now. But I use a 60 LED ring and have strange behaviour which shows up in the two following situations:

1. The hour "hand" goes off from ~ xx:59:xx - xx:01:xx
2. The minute hand goes off for one second once a minute. But the exact moment drifts - depending on the progress of the minute hand.

I managed to pin down 2. to maybe have something to do with "(float)minute(now()) + ((1.0 / 60.0) * " in float minutePosition(). When I remove the statement the minute hand won't fade anymore but it won't blank out either.
Disabling enhanced renderer also solves 2.

Both does not seem to happen on a 24 LED count, but still happens when defining 59.
