anethum

A common API for parsers and serializers in io7m packages.

Motivation

io7m packages expose many different parsers and serializers. The anethum package attempts to define a consistent and strongly-typed API specification that these parsers and serializers can implement in order to provide a uniform user experience between all of the different packages.

Building

$ mvn clean verify

Usage

Parsers should implement the ParserFactoryType and ParserType interfaces.

Serializers should implement the SerializerFactoryType and SerializerType interfaces.

Status values need room for more information

Status values should hold a map of string values for extra metadata. This would allow for things like:

  • Specification links
  • Specification UUID references
  • BNF rules

This would allow for compiler frontends to turn the extra information into much more detailed error messages, where information can be selectively enabled/disabled. Right now, the only thing those compilers can do is pack everything into one large error message.
