I want to install the script into a custom prefix path. I assume setting PREFIX to my preferred installation path will install the butt executable into $PREFIX/bin path, however the installation script still attempts to copy the executable into /usr/local/bin.

Looking at the Makefile, it seems to me you are falling back to the default $exec_prefix too soon. First check for $EXEC_PREFIX, then for $PREFIX and then for $exec_prefix. Though I am not sure if there is any benefit in having separate EXEC_PREFIX.

Since omgf depends on this tool for CI builds, it would be nice to have an actual stable release which can be safely used in CI environment.

Preferably add a single script which can be installed with curl + chmod into the test environment.
