I believe it is possible but it would require various changes to the source code. I'll consider adding this feature to the 3.x series in a distant future, but contributions are welcome if you or anybody wants to add it sooner.
This link shows how to enable the alpha channel in an Electron app:

To add this feature to the existing 2.x release one would need to modify:
- teleprompter.css
- teleprompter-themes.css
- teleprompter-themes.js
- editor.js
A quick solution for non developer Linux users would be to:
- Use KDE Plasma
- Set the Titlebar wheel event to Change Opacity
- In Teleprompter, set the text to white and the background to black
- Prompt
- Press Alt-F3 > More Actions > and disable the No Border option
- Use the mouse wheel on the titlebar to adjust window opacity
