Great! Thank you for the clarification.

I will use the values in the dev branch then:

73376 HubMass - Hub mass (kg)
1038341 HubIner - Hub inertia about rotor axis [3 blades] or teeter axis [2 blades] (kg m^2)
1836784 GenIner - Generator inertia about HSS (kg m^2)
645370 NacMass - Nacelle mass (kg)

Regards,
Qusay.

Hi Garrett,

On the same topic, I'm looking at the mass properties in the tabular file and in the ElastoDyn file. The mass for nacelle and hub seems to be different. Could you please clarify?

Thank you.

Thanks for catching this! We have been tweaking some final items ahead of pushing out the design. The spreadsheet is auto-populated, but the ElastoDyn update requires a few more steps. I have aligned the values now.

Hello,

  • Version of IEA-15-240-RWT considered : tag v1.1.2

Nacelle Mass

@gbarter, following your answer right above, in the ElastoDyn file line 77, there is still the 646.895 t while in the documation tabular file it is 675.175t as mentioned above
In both case, this is not consistent with the 630 t Table 5-1 of the fixed wind turbine report
Am i missing something ?

EDIT: In Elastodyn, When we sum up "YawBrMass" and "NacMass" we get the tabular value of 675.175t

Hub Mass

Tabular file and Elastodyn have the same values (69360kg) , however, this is not consistent with the 190t for the Table 5-1 of the fixed wind turbine report
Different definitions of the Hub ?

Tower height [Small difference]

in the floating report Table 10, the tower height is 144.582m while it is 144.386m in the ElastoDyn file

I guess the ElastoDyn value is the correct one being aligned ith the UMaineSemi Ontology

Might be worth to add a general statement in the main readMe or in the FAQ about order of precedence : when someone is comparing different files:
Ontology >Tabular description file > Simulation input files > Report (not updated)

Thank you. Your suggestion to add comments to the FAQ on the status of nacelle properties is a good one and overdue. I added this entry.

For the nacelle mass, the inconsistency is the difference between what OpenFAST and WISDEM consider as part of the "nacelle" (whether the yaw system is included or not), which you pointed out in the revision. The old report values in Table 5-1 should not be considered at all.
