Direct mode crashes

Hey y'all killer app for a moment I was on top of the world I am a sim racer using iracing, this app was a break through for me, opening a door or at least a window to dashboard apps that I could see for the car that the iracing sim doesn't show, everything was working fine but then realized my frame rate dropped to almost 44fps which is in bearabale, I get the best frame rate through iracing using direct mode where the sim sees my Vive vr headset as a second monitor and configured the sim setting to give me the great 89fps, the down side is my headset glitches out and goes completely red when launching ovrdrop when in this mode, any thoughts on a work around I can do to get the window to other apps and my 89fps? Also while I'm asking any way I can get "multiple" windows showing a few other dashboards?

Pivoting issue while Grabbing

This one has gone unfixed for a while now. There's and issue where when you grab the Overlay it pivots on center instead of by where you grabbed it.

I'll fix this one when I can, I just wanted to let you guys know I'm aware of this issue.

Cursor position sometimes incorrect

I don't yet know how to reproduce this. Sometimes in VR the cursor appears to be in a wrong position, for example it's shifted X amount to left. Loading a profile again fixes it.

White screen when trying to show second monitor plugged to the second graphic card

Hello,
First, thanks for your awesome work. I think I discovered an issue when you're trying to show something from a second monitor plugged to another graphic card it shows a white screen. The pointer still shows but the screen remains blank.
Please see attached my dxdiag config.

I run 2 Amd R290 and they are not set to crossfire mode.

I managed to have the second monitor to work in OVRDrop by plugging it back to the main graphic card.

I hope this information will be useful for someone.

Seeking Translators

It would be great if we could localize OVRdrop for each region. Unfortunately I'm not a master translator, and I don't trust Google Translate unless I have to :).

If you're interested in localizing OVRdrop for another language (and you are proficient in English and said language, of course), please let me know!

Oculus Touch bugs

These issues apply to the Oculus Touch, because until today, I did not have Oculus Rift/Touch to test with.

  • Cursor is at wrong position
  • When Grabbing, Overlay is at wrong position and angle
  • Scrolling does not work for Oculus Touch (because there is no Touchpad)

These issues will be fixed in v1.0.3 - which should be out once I finish bug testing the changes.

Add aim stabilization

I definitely plan to add aim stabilization to make aiming less difficult :). Should be a quick fix.

This is only an issue because SteamVR's tracking doesn't seem to have much stabilization itself. Probably to make the tracked devices more responsive.

Move "Save New Profile" stuff to Prompt window

The "Enter Name Here..." text box, the extra save button, and the cancel button, should be a prompt like the "Delete Profile" prompt. That would make it a lot easier to understand at first glance.

[Hotkeys] Add "Resize Window" actions

For seated experiences such as Elite Dangerous which do not require the Vive controllers this would be amazing would it be possible to implement this?

[Hotkeys] Allow TrackedDevice Input

Would be really convenient for me if I would be able to toggle the screen on/off with the menu button on one of the vive controllers. Thanks!

OVRdrop window not rendering correctly in VR.

I recently purchased OVRdrop from Steam and tested it out on my VR setup at home. It worked great on this setup. I bought it for my work VR station but when I ran it on that setup, the window doesn't display correctly. All that shows up in VR is a couple of windows with nothing on them (generally just a white window and a larger, blue, semi transparent window) I rebooted the PC and messed around with settings in OVR drop but none of that fixed the issue. It may be something I am doing wrong or maybe its something with the differences in the configurations.

My home VR setup is:
HTC Vive
Nvidia GTX 1080
Windows 10 Professional

My work VR setup is:
HTC Vive
Nvidia Quadro P6000
Windows 7 Professional

Could the issue be with the Quadro drivers or perhaps windows 7?

I am hoping to use OVRdrop on my work VR setup with a CAD VR product called Visionary Render by Virtalis. I don't know if it will work but I want to try and see if it will so I can display webex, videoconference feeds, etc into Visionary Render. Visionary Render does not do any of that but perhaps your software would allow me to do this. Right now, I can't even get the OVR drop to display in the VR headset in the normal Vive window (before I even launch Visionary Render...basically the "This is Real" lobby scene you see when you first put on the headset)

Any guidance you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

[Hotkeys] Add Quick-save/load and related actions

It was requested on Steam to add the ability to quick swap between premade (by the user) hotkey mappings. This is would allow the user to swap between multiple hotkey mappings, like saving and loading different Hotkey profiles, but quick and easy, such as tapping Shift+1 or Shift+2 to swap between mappings 1 and 2.

This sounds like a good idea, and should be easy enough to implement.

Crash on startup

Hey just bought and downloaded v1.0.5 and as soon as it gets past the "made with unity" screen it crashes immediately.

Shader issue on latest Experimental

The latest experimental has a new shader that causes certain colors to respond weirdly - they are transparent.

Not entirely sure why this happens - I believe it has something to do with DWM and transparency - but I'll write a new shader to fix the transparency issue.

Windows 7

I know Windows 7 is not currently supported however on steam is says "Support for Windows 7 is planned for the future" so i was just wondering how long that is likely to be? I would love to be able to use this for Elite Dangerous

Add Oculus SDK support

I believe it may be possible to add Oculus SDK support which would fix the issue where in some games on the Oculus Rift you cannot see OVRdrop.

Looking into it soon - I only just got a Rift today so I couldn't test against it until now.

Setting the FPS very low makes OVRdrop seem laggy and unresponsive

So, until now, I was setting the capture FPS by changing the FPS of the actual application. For example, setting the FPS to 1 FPS would not only take just one "snapshot" per second, but also set OVRdrop's target FPS to 1 frame per second, which caused it to seem laggy and unresponsive.

I have now implemented a proper solution. The target FPS of OVRdrop will now cap at a minimum of 60 FPS, however it will go higher with the higher FPS settings.

The actual "screenshot" however, will be taken with the FPS you set - i.e. 1 FPS = 1 screenshot per second, but OVRdrop itself will continue to update at 60 FPS, so OVRdrop (and the VR overlays) no longer seems slow or unresponsive.

I'll do some testing later before I push v1.0.4p4, and I might lower the minimum of OVRdrop itself to 30 FPS if it still seems responsive at that level.

The actual capture rate has not changed, but OVRdrop itself will now cap out at a minimum of 60 FPS so it no longer seems unresponsive or slow with slower capture rates. As a side effect however - unless I fix this before pushing v1.0.4p4 - the FPS: ### counter will now bottom out around 60 FPS instead of displaying the actual capture rate FPS. At higher FPS settings (60/120/Unlimited) you won't see a difference.

Instant Crash with new experimental build

newest Nvidia driver, and system fully patched.

hmm , no crash logs generated. It starts the unity splash screen, but the standard gui isn´t generated bevor the unity window closes.

Saved profile should include captured window selection

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new profile
  2. Set the captured window to a new Firefox browser title (can be any name/site) instance
  3. Save the profile
  4. Close OVRdrop
  5. Reopen OVRdrop, and reload the saved profile

Expected outcome:

  • The captured window selector should select the Firefox instance defined in step 2

Actual outcome:

  • Captured window selector defaults to OVRdrop window

Steam always says OVRdrop is running

after i close OVRdrop and the windows closes, steam still says its running, i cant close steam because it still says OVRdrop running and is gona try to close it, cant,, and then tells me to close it.

I cant even find OVRdrop.exe in the taskmanager.

Because of this i cant even reopen, since is already "running"

Does OVRdrop support multiple windows?

Great to see OVRdrop on Steam! One feature I don't either seem to be able to find, either documented or in-program is OpenVRDesktopDisplayPortal's ability to be launched multiple times to attach more than one window in the VR environment?

  • Is this intentional?
  • Is this feature likely to return in later versions? (One program instance handling multiple windows perhaps?)

(I do notice that even running a second copy outside of Steam closes itself)

See the title. I understand it's switched to paid software now, but that doesn't mean it can't still be open source. I'm one of those types that prefers to avoid closed source software as much as possible, so... Any information on this? Thanks.

Controllers disconnect when using steam dashboard

There is a problem for me when I use the steam dashboard when I have allow camera in dashboard enabled. I dont know if it happens with room view or chaperone bounds too.
The display in the headset goes blank then recovers but the controllers are disconnected. both blinking in steam VR panel. I am using an Inateck PCI USB3 card as suggested by HTC and Valve, so I dont think it is a USB chipset compatibility thing. Not knowing much about it, it seems to me that when there are two different windows being rendered on the controllers in VR it falls over.

Cannot click in the game Carnival Games VR

Hi Hotrian,

I just found out if I open the game Carnival Games VR, OVRdrop click will stop to work. I tried to run the OVRdrop with administrator right (Right click the exe in steam folder and select "run as administrator"), but click still not working.

It seems Carnival Games VR did some magic trick to intercept the controller events. I can verify the same problem with OVRDDP. It's really strange and google turned out nothing. Could you sheds some light on this issue?

[Hotkeys] Add 'Swap Source' Action/Functionality

Suggested in #36 as well as on Steam.

Currently the latest builds allow for swapping profiles automatically when the source changes. The next step here was to add Hotkeys to trigger source swapping, but has been delayed as I am rehauling the "Hotkey" system into the "Activator" system. The new system will support TrackedDevice input, and allow remapping actions much like the old Hotkey system, but allows significantly more complex logic and customization.

Not responding

I have several "not responding" problem today, it was happened before also.

How does this happen? I play some time then I notice in HMD that capture freezes, I select OVRdrop window then voila: application not responding. This time I played ETS2, previous time I played nothing just test overlay function, if I remember correct.

Ignore Tracking Space doesn't work as intended.

For some reason, Ignore Tracking Space only works when loading a saved profile, instead of working automatically when turning it on or off.

Right now, you can use Ignore Tracking Space by Enabling/Disabling it, saving the profile, loading up a different profile, then loading the first again.

I will definitely look into this and see why this is happening.

Backside sometimes (rarely) goes missing

This one doesn't seem repeatable.

It's very rare, but every now and then the Backside goes missing, or appears somewhere it shouldn't be. I've been trying to track down the cause of this one for a while, but because it's so rare and doesn't seem repeatable, I haven't been able to figure out what causes it.

It would be cool if you guys could comment and let me know what you were doing when the Backside went missing or teleported somewhere it shouldn't be.

So far, this only seems to happen when I'm messing with the overlay's settings, and saving then loading a different profile and then loading back the first seems to fix it every time.

Curved Screen

Please if you can add this on the next update..
All the competitor have this feature.. there is no virtual dekstop screen program who doesn't have this feature :(

Frames per second

I am getting a significant drop in frame rate when launching OVR, I am using it in the iracing motorsports simulator, with the oVR off I get the maximum 89 frames per second but as soon as I launch OVR it drops to a staggering un usable frame rate of 45, and this is when I am the only car on the track I would hate to see what would happen in an official race with 20 other cars in the sim.

I have tried a variety of frame rate settings in OVR but cant seem to figure out what I need to do to get back to my desired 89 frames per second, also if you don't mind I have another question, I have saved a profile but every-time it launches it defaults to ovr drop as the source whereas I would like it to be monitor 2, if I cant fix the frame rate issue a possible work around would be to turn off OVR when I dont need it, but while racing I can't change the setting to monitor 2

Other than these issues this is an amazing app, I cant believe I can load dashboard apps in VR, now if I can just get up to 89 fps

This has been requested a few times now. I will definitely look into the possibility.

Doesn't work properly with Rotated Monitors

OVRdrop doesn't currently support Rotated Monitors (Portrait / Landscape (flipped) / Portrait (flipped)), this has been fixed in my local source and will be fixed in the next build on the Experimental branch, v1.0.4p3.

Blank White Screen

Hi. I have a stock MSI GS43 6RE laptop and a HTC Vive, (which incidentally, works well with all the other 92 VR software titles I have installed),.

My problem is that, within VR, I get nothing but a blank white screen, with a mouse cursor, in all but the HMD & Laptop webcam views. Effectively making this software useless to me. Can you give me any clues as to how I might get this working?

Add option for "aim grab" instead of "touch grab"

Someone requested the feature where you just aim at the Overlay to grab it, instead of having to touch it - this wouldn't work outright because you wouldn't be able to click anymore, but there might be a solution that would allow this, so I'm putting this request up while I think on it.

Capture window from behind another window

With the open source version, for example I could capture firefox when It was behind a game window but with OVRdrop the game window would hide the firefox window if the positions overlap. Maybe give an option to use that legacy capture mode? I don't mind if the performance is worse.
