HeroForge Anew is a character builder spreadsheet for D&D 3.5. It makes the process of character generation far simpler, allowing you to create in minutes what would once have taken hours, and in hours what would once have taken days! Powerful and well designed, it can handle the majority of 3.5 content, and more content is being added. Try it, and never look back!

I know several of you have offered to help out with this. Well, I finally have something you can do. Now I've put in support for Wild Shape and animal companions, it would be really good if I could get some help with data entry, to add in the stats for more creatures. At the moment, the list of available critters to turn into is pretty limited, and there's barely anything that isn't an animal - so Masters of Many Forms are sad. Anyone up for helping out with that, drop me a message and I'll walk you through the layout and format you need.

Attacks showing #Value#

hey I dont know if this is for all classes but for a Druid when you have your attacks listed for your weapons on the Attacks sheet and then you Wildshape to have the Attacks be added for the form you Wildshape into (ie Wildshape into a Black Bear go back to the Attacks sheet and add the 2 claws and bite to 2 slots of the attacks), when you revert back to normal form and you try to add new attacks everything comes ups as #VALUE# errors unless you reset the Attacks sheet.

General project discussion

GitHub doesn't seem to have an easy way to have general discussion about the project, so I figured opening an issue made a reasonable workaround. Here - general discussion thread for all.

Performance in Feat section

This is probably well known. The feat section performs very poorly - probably because of the huge amount of feats.
Is there a way around to fix this? The only thing that comes into my mind would be splitting the feat section into multiple sections (f.e. giving the complete series feats it's own section)...

Diamond Dragon augmentation

there's a name error when taking Diamond Dragon. its augmentation formulas reference DiDrAug1,DiDrAug2,DiDrAug3 when it should reference DiDrAug1,DiDrAug5,DiDrAug10 respectively.

Top menu in the feat section looks strange the original assorted feats is gone..

Wildshapes

First of all, I'm very impressed with all the attention, time and effort you've been putting into this sheet since you took over.

Second of all, I noticed you have begun to implement wildshapes, which is awesome, I wanted to know where it takes the wildshape stats from(so I can add my own entries) and also when/if you were planning on adding different wildshape sources?( my 2 favorite forms are dire tortoise and sugauro sentinel, both from sandstorm).

Also, can you add support for the exalted wildshape feat in terms of adding the celestial template to normal animal wildshapes? I noticed I couldn't find plant or elemental wildshapes.

Adding Heedless Charge to Power Attack Buff

This isn't an issue but its something that would be nice if you could add. I can give you the steps if you want them. These steps are gonna act like you don't know what your doing in case some1 that doesn't know can do it for themselves.

  1. Create a checkbox next to Power Attack. Leave enough space between The power attack input cell and the checkbox so you can "name" the check box Headless Charge.

  2. Open up Name Manager from FORMULAS tab with the checkbox selected (hold Ctrl+Click). Create a new Name and call it "HeedlessCharge". It should point to the checkbox.

  3. Right click on checkbox and go to Format Control. Go to the Control Tab and in the Cell Link Type in Heedless Charge.

  4. Go to the Attacks sheet and select rows 4-14 and unhide them also unhide all Columns. Go to cells F13, U13, AJ13, AY13, BN13, and CC13. your formula should look like this in F13
    =IF(AND(PowerAttackAmount>0,OR(NOT(L14),AND(FtPowerThrow,L14)),NOT(HeedlessCharge)),PowerAttackAmount,0)+IF(AND(CombatExpertiseAmount>0,NOT(L14)),CombatExpertiseAmount,0)

  5. The L14 in the formula should go with its respected counterparts so for U13 the formula would be
    =IF(AND(PowerAttackAmount>0,OR(NOT(AA14),AND(FtPowerThrow,AA14))),PowerAttackAmount,0)+IF(AND(CombatExpertiseAmount>0,NOT(AA14)),CombatExpertiseAmount,0)

  6. Continue till the 4 remaining are done.

  7. Go to CS Calc sheet and in cell G50 your formula should be
    =IF(HeedlessCharge,-PowerAttackAmount,0)

Adding New Buffs.

How exactly do I add new Buffs. I'm trying to add primal hunter, primal instinct, primal senses, & primal speed. among others and I'm lost.

Battle Sorcerer variant from Unearthed Arcana missing

I've switched to using Excel 2003 so it's working now, a couple of the "Reset" buttons throw errors saying the tab's protected though.

I started building my character and found that the only variant base class in the Unearthed Arcana section is some Cloistered Cleric thing. The Battle Sorcerer variant isn't there.

I kind of need the Battle Sorcerer usable today or tomorrow so if anyone could help me use the Custom Class tab to set up a temporary implementation until it's added to the core that'd be nice.

Familiar Skill Calculation

Reproduction steps:
Wizard, lv 1, add familiar (any).

Final skill values (for the familiar) result in ####, due to type errors in the calculations for those skills in the DA and DB columns. This may happen for other skills (I have the default hide untrained skills checked), but I am at least seeing this error for Intimidate.

Request: Could you please add a 7th attack area.

Hi, I love that someone has taken up the continuation of this project. I am just requesting that you add a 7th attack area. I always add it myself but it is a bit time consuming to add it to every revision, besides it make the character sheet look more balanced when printed.

Size U and M in Class Weapons And Armor?

I was scrolling through and noticed 2 size types that I have no clue what they are, Curious if you know?
U: I'm guessing that this is for Unarmed as the only things listed with it is Gauntlet, Grapple, Touch, & Unarmed Strike.
M: I have no Idea. Has Listed Cat-O-Nine-Tails, Musket, Poker, & Rapier, Parthian.

Monk Bonus Feats Drop-downs

I noticed that some of the Monks Bonus Feats in the drop-down list are showing #Name? error. I know that there was some feats listed b4 Anew. I haven't played a monk in a while so I don't know when the error actually occurred.

Phantom Weight Tallied in Total Weight Carried Field

The total weight in the character sheet appears to be tallying up non-zero default values from extra hidden columns. It tacked on about 30-40 lbs of extra weight to my champion (who has no armor and has attacks with weapons that total around 6 lbs--in case the weight of the weapons in the attacks is intended to be included in the total. I'm not sure what those hidden values are supposed to represent, but I know my lv 1 wizard with nothing extra should not have whatever hidden weight that was. Changing the formula in the Total Weight box to just sum the two visible columns solved the problem for me, but whether that formula change is actually what was intended in the first place or whether someone accidentally pushed some invalid default settings, I don't know.

I imagine the actual problem lies in the calculations being done in those hidden cells, but I'm not sure what they're for. Perhaps someone more familiar with it will be able to determine that faster.

No Place to ask for requests

Not a prob but it would be nice if there was a place for requests. I know you have a list of stuff you wanna do I just figured that if enough people requested something that it would allow you to move that item up on your list. Also on that note just curious if you ever used the YAPCG? I only ask cause the way they have their Weapons And Magic Items would be a great way to do it for HeroForge if it wasn't to complicated.

Temp Mods on Character Sheet 1 mostly working

The Temp Con Mod isn't affecting HP thought I think it is affecting Fort save. Temp Str Mod isn't affecting attack bonus damage. I not sure about the others. I noticed it at last gaming session with my group when I got hit by a fang spider and failed my fort.

Open Office Compatibility?

Is the setup incompatible with Apache Open Office?
Downloaded ZIP and extracted to desktop. Verified all files in folder and match load dates.
On load, the .XLS file prompts contains links to other files, should they be updated, selected yes.
Have opened security settings to allow Macros to operate.
Opened file properties for .XLS and unblocked

On selecting a number of fields/buttons getting error

No error on Deities list,
Unearthed Arcana: no error on the Fraction BAB or Save - errors on Gestalt/Traits/Flaws
No errors selecting any items under Non-Setting Sources, (incld Monstrous)
Under "Settings" all selections return errors (except: Underdark & remaining list from Age of Mortals down)
Everything below "Optional Tabs". (section3)

If I am missing a step, any assistance would be appreciated.

Dweomerkeeper conversion is no quite finished

One of the changes you converted the Dweomerkeeper PrC from F&P to the Complete Divine Web Enhancement version. It's mostly correct except that it it giving bonus feats at levels 1, 5 and 9 of the PrC which it should not. I'm assuming that is a leftover from the previous version. Also in the Bonus Feats dropdown on the Feats tab there is still a listing for Dweomerkeeper which should probably be removed since the PrC no longer provides bonus feats.

Oh and there only seems to be locations for 3 Mantle of Spells entries on the Prestige Class III page, should be 5, and the "x"es never become check marks.

Character Sheet Logo

The logo on Character Sheet 1 does not respect the default Campaign Selection from the Options sheet (Generic D&D 3.5). Unless you explicitly change the campaign and then change it back to Generic D&D 3.5, The Legend of the Five Rings logo shows up.

Point Blank Shot not working properly

I noticed that Point Blank shot doesn't appear to be counting the damage bonus when "Within 30'" is chosen, although the attack bonus appears to be working fine.

I did some digging and I think it's because, on the Attacks tab, cell X20 only counts the bonuses between cells X11:X18, whereas it should also include X19.

Now, I must admit I didn't try to understand every piece of every formula, so I might be completely wrong, but X19 does at least seem to go to 1 when I chose either "Within 30'", or "Rapid Shot, Within 30'" and 0 for all other options.

This is for Weapon/Attack 2, for Attack 1, it's cell I20 and there are others for each attack.

are the kobold "rite of Passage" and "greater rite of passage" able to be tracked on the spreadsheet somewhere?

OpenOffice.org 4.1.1 BASIC runtime errors

I receive the error messages listed below upon loading the document with macros enabled in OpenOffice.org Calc 4.1.1:

'91' object variable not set.
'35' InStrB (3 times)
'91' object variable not set (2 times)
'35' InStrB

Messages are listed in order of when I received them during loading. I'm going to see if it will still function with those errors but I'm not holding out too much hope...

Tashalatora and monk bugs

Couple bugs here. First is related to that HRES/HRECS bug that was messing up class selection and stuff. The bonus monk feat tables still reference HRES insted of HRECS so instead of Monastic training as a potential monk bonus feat you get a NAME error.

Second is a bit missed from Tashalatora implementation: Flurry of Blows on the attacks page. You need to account for the manifesting class level to get full bonuses and attacks. On attack 1 you need to add "+IF(FtTashalatora,VLOOKUP(TashalatoraClass,TblManifesterRef,3))" to the monk level calculation in cells D3 and D4 then do the equivalent for the other attacks.

I'm only so-so on the Excel stuff (it takes me a while to find the fixes sometimes) but if you'd like me to fix bugs when I find them and upload new versions I can. Just let me know, otherwise I'll just submit issues.

Tome of magic unfinished

just a heads up, since you have reawakened this lovely piece of excel. there are some classes from tome of magic that are unfinished. and it seems some of the vestiges are missing too. according to the additional vestige collection.. ( some are included, others are not.)

Weird bug (reproducable) with Paladin class

Hi. I get this bug both with old versions of Heroforge, and Heroforge anew.
Open, make all nonsetting sources available, open flaws tab, select stats 16 10 12 12 10 16, Magical gain +2dex +2con -2wis +2cha, select Rock Gnome, Select Paladin level 1 and 2, enter 10 for lvl 2 hitpoints.

At this point already, in Character Sheet II the Divine Grace Paladin bonus is not shown anymore in the Special Abilities, neither does it show in the Character Sheet I misc bonus to saves.

I had this 3 times now, using different versions of excel on 2 different computers. Sometimes it takes a bit longer (e.g. I add weapons and armor). But it always comes up within 10-15 minutes.

The original Heroforge site contained more than the character sheet. Are the other sheets available? like the spell forge etc?

HeroForge Database

You know I just thought of it. I know there are sites that contain database files (http://www.andargor.com/) for D&D 3.0/3.5 stuff and I know at some point you want to split HeroForge up into smaller chunks and have the info be pulled from the others so I guess the question is if you had the some info being pulled from the Large Database files that you can get from various sites like (http://www.andargor.com/) would it help speed up the process.

Familar And Animal Companion Skills.

Hey Just wanted to let you know that I figured out what the Skills coding syntax is on the Creatures Info Sheet. The 0;0, 2;4, 0;2 ect..
The first number is how many ranks in the skill the creature has the second number any and all modifiers such as Racial, Feat, Other, Speed, Size, Synergy. I figured this out by looking at the Skill Blocks for a variety of different monsters @ http://imarvintpa.com/dndlive/ If you wanna look for yourself. I dont know where they got the Skill Blocks for the monsters but they have them for some. (btw if you do go look at that website everything highlighted in blue is where the full info is and everything in orange only has miniscule amounts of data)

Psion Discipline

There is a small bug under the psion class. The discipline Telepath and psychopotation is offset by two lines. but only the name. the stats and calculations are placet as if the discoplines were two lines above

Custom Template isn't calculating everything

As stated by title the custom template isn't calculating. SR and Languages [although I'm sure that the language has to be in the game instead of a brand new one not listed (DM's own creation for their Created world)] I know for sure don't know about everything else. I'm also having one hell of a time trying to add said template to a character. It a inherited Template if that makes a difference.

Spellsheets

Hello, I've cloned the latest version of HeroForge and can't seem to get it to generate spell sheets. In older versions spell sheets would be generated with the availability of spell selection appropriate to your character class(es) and level. I've played around with it a bit and created a 20th level sorcerer as an example, including the Complete Arcane and Spell Compendium. The familiar character sheet gets generated but not the spell sheets. Is this a bug; am I missing step(s); or has this feature since been removed?

Gestalt not reading Second Class for Feats

Hey I'm getting a chance to actually play a Gestalt Game with my group and when Selecting Feats it seems like the feats selection isn't reading my second class selections (Right Side) when I select feats. I'm making a Fighter 9/Samurai 9 Race is Goliath with a Draconic Templete. When scrolling through the feats it doesn't look like it's reading the fact that I'm also a Samurai and not just a Fighter

Ranger: pets, bugs and drama

Hello I play a Ranger, Rogue, Order of the Bow Initiate hybrid and thus I ran into a few problems.

  1. Wild Empathy die roll is inaccurate. Normally, it's 1d20 + CHA Mod + Ranger lvl.
    In my case it should be 1d20 + 5, since I have +0 CHA Mod and I'm only 5 lvl Ranger, yet it shows 1d20 + 7.

  2. Favored enemy. I have chosen only 2 favored enemies aaaaand......ctrl c - ctrl v
    Favored Enemy: "blah blah blah"

  • Undead (+2 bonus)

  1. My Pet's (Eagle) skills and stats are incorrect. I compared them with Monster Manual's correct ones and it's like day and night differences!

Items in Name Manager pointing to a file in your Documents folder

Not a real issue but just thought I'd let you know that there are some items in the Name Manager that are pointing to a Heroforge in your Document folder.
The items are MsESeer1, MsESeer1, MsEShp1, MSEShp2, MsETele1, MsETele2, and TblTemplateClassSk. I'm pretty sure that those wont work properly if they point to someplace that doesn't exist for other users.

Question / Pull Request

Before I just surprise you with a pull request, I figured I'd ask - I usually do my battle maps using Excel and a projector. One thing I've found very useful is just a sheet off to the side that's got pre-drawn shapes for each spell effect (radius, cone, line), so I can copy/paste one in real quick to figure out who got hit by a Fireball.

I was about to post it to my own GitHib, but then figured I wasn't the first one with that idea, did a few searches, and yours looks the most similar.

Is that something that you think would be worth including? Or are you trying to keep this concise and single-purpose?

Warshaper natural attacks

i am trying to create a shifter barbarian/warshaper.
but i have encountered a couple of things i hope one you can help me with.

do you know how i can make natural attacks a permanent asset in the attack window?

Can you tell me where i can edit feats? the feat shifter savagery activates upon shifting instead of shifting and rageing.

is it possible to create your own class variant? i would like to have a totem variant from unearthed arcana.
if that is not possible, do you know where i can change the class abilities of the barbarian?

Advancing Animal Companions

Is there anyway that you can have the animal companions Advance like they should when you level? Cause right now as it sits if you start a new game at level 1 with a wolf lets say it doesn't increase it's stats, skills, damage, ect.. as you level like they should.

Request:Convert to XLSM format

Hi,

I would like to request porting to an open XML (XLSM/ODT) format. The XLSM or ODT format is actually a zip file created from a source XML files, you can use github more effectively to patch and merge changes in the source XML, rather than by hand.

For those using earlier versions is trouble opening xls files in later versions of office, and earlier versions of office can be made compatible: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/924074

My initial investigations seem to imply that practically ODT is the better XML format. When i save as XLSM and ODT from Excel 2013 i find that the XLSM file contains 9016 XML files, and the ODT version contains 14 files.

The Tashalatora feat isn't changing Flurry of Blows to reflex the stacking.

Hello, is it possible to add more flaws in the worksheet? And if yes, how can we do that?

Weapon "Inappropriately sized"

Firstly, Great job!

Secondly, when posting a new sheet please make sure all character data has already been cleared out.

Finally, I am trying to build a Nixie Bard. Whenever I pick any weapon, any size, I get a pop-up saying "Inappropriately Sized" and no weapon info shows up.

Buffs Adding HP without being Checked

I was just messing around and I noticed that there are a few Buffs that add HP without having the Buff Turned on. Aid, Divine Power, Greater Heroism, Heroes' Feast all add HP to your character when you have the Boxes filled in but Dont have the Buff Checkbox Checked

Hide Unavailable Books not working

Hey Not that most people care (atleast I think they might not) but the Hide Unavailable Books Check box on the Feats Sheet doesn't work properly anymore. Not sure why but for 1 of my games I'm only allowed the Core books and Forgotten Realms books and when I check the Hide box and let it refresh I still get all the books showing for feats. Also Hide Epic Feats doesn't work either. I'm sure it could just be something with the VBA coding.

Adding Weapon, Armor, And Shield Enhancements??

Is there a way that you can add Weapon, Armor, and/or Shield enhancements? Where all people you have to do is type the Enhancement name in the Special Properties and it auto calcs the data to add or subtract. ie like a Weightless, Nimbleness, Quickness Fullplate it would auto calcs the Fullplate to be 8 AC, 4 Max Dex (1+2 from weightless + 1 from nimbleness), -2 ACP (-6+2 from weightless + 2 from nimbleness), 25 ASF (35-10 from weightless), 0 Weight (50-50 from weightless) and +5 to speed from quickness. And I think weightless allows you to move at full speed instead of whatever negatives you would get.
