addon-plex's Issues

Map external shares to server

Problem/Motivation

I'm running Hassio on a raspberry pi 4. Since SD card storage is limited I'd like to be able to map a nas share to the Plex Server to the Plex addon/container

Expected behavior

Since Addons are basically just docker containers I would expect be able to use the -v volume comand or volumes in the docker compose to map whatever storage you want ex:
-v /path/to/tvseries:/tv
--> -v //NasIp/share/on/NAS:/share/in/addon

Actual behavior

Currently you can't set that configuration

Steps to reproduce

na

Proposed changes

I have not been able to figue out how to do a mount command when starting the container as an addon yet.

"WARNING: Protection mode is ON. Unable to mount external drivers!" & "Port 'X' is already in use by something else on the host."

Problem/Motivation

When starting the Plex Media Server with NAS addon, my log gives the error: "WARNING: Protection mode is ON. Unable to mount external drivers!" despite having protection mode toggled off.

When starting the Plex Media Server addon after starting the Plex Media Server with NAS addon (as per the documentation for Plex Media Server with NAS addon), I am greeted with the error: "Port 'X' is already in use by something else on the host.", where "X" is one of the various ports listed within the configuration for either addon.

Expected behavior

I expected to not get a protection mode on warning.

I expected the Plex Media Server addon to start normally after starting the Plex Media Server with NAS addon.

Actual behavior

Described above.

Steps to reproduce

Uncertain

Proposed changes

None. Help needed.

Add shared server

Problem/Motivation

Add shared server

Expected behavior

Add the shared sever in the same way as my local server to get his Activity Sensor

Actual behavior

The installation of this server stoped and canceled. There is no way to add this server to home-assistant.
The integration page shows a new box to finish the installation. But after authentication the installation failed.

Steps to reproduce

Try to add a shared server via the integration page

Proposed changes

  • get media_player for devices who played things from the shared server within my local server
  • hide shared server from the configuration list

Unifi Add-on Confilcts

Problem/Motivation

Both Unifi Add-on and the Plex Add-on use port 1900 by default so cannot be run together

Expected behavior

When starting the second Add-on using port 1900 is should start or fail and show an error in the log.

Actual behavior

When starting the second add-on using port 1900, the add-on fails to start but does not report anything in the log

Steps to reproduce

Install Plex and Unifi add-ons and try to start both of them

Proposed changes

Add conflict to Add-on documentation for Plex and Unifi (like what has been done for AirSonos)

What is the Media Library folder path in Plex?

Media Library in Plex is not working when the folder path is mapped to NAS connected with HA

I want to be able make a library in Plex which is mapped to an external drive connected to HA. I'm not sure what folder path to use to be able to achieve this.

/\192.168.0.1/share/NAS/music

This seems not work. I have tried everything. Is this not possible with this add on? If it is possible can you please tell me how it can be done.

Thanks!

Anyway to Change Plex Claim Code Once Entered?

Problem/Motivation

Plex had a recent data breach, and in the process, my server was un-associated with my account. I requested a new claim code and entered it on the configuration page, but it didn't work.

Pretty sure based on my review of /etc/cont-init.d/plex.sh that a new claim code will only be authenticated on the first run.

Expected behavior

I would have expected the Plex addon to recognize that the claim code had changed and request new authentication.

Actual behavior

Nothing.

Steps to reproduce

Remove the server from your account then try to add it back with a new claim code.

Proposed changes

Add some checking to plex.sh to see if the claim code has changed.

Connection problem on integration of plex add-on

Problem/Motivation

After installed the plex server on Home Assistant 2.1 I want to integrrate the Server, but the authorisation is accepted, but the intergration window keeps complain it is not sucessful
I tried to follow Solving connection issues with Plex"" of Frencks page.
But with
Login to the Plex web interface.
Goto setting.
Click the server tab.
I did not see the 'Server tab'

Expected behavior

After authorisation, the intergration should be completed

Actual behavior

After authorisation, the intergration will not finish. device Plex media is not present

Steps to reproduce

Install Plex media server, start integration

Proposed changes

No idea

(If you have a proposed change, workaround or fix,
describe the rationale behind it)

USB Disk

Problem/Motivation

I want to mount my movies library un a USB hard drive

(Why the issue was filed)
I installed this addon and saved some movies on a USB hard drive. I want to share the drive with samba and map my plex libraries in this. I think that it is possible to map the disk as a volume with portainer addon and take it to share with samba addon and use it as the location for the library of my plex addon.
I´m new on portainwe and docker, I don´t know how, but I think it´s possible to do it.

Can anybody help me?

Expected behavior

(What you expected to happen)

Actual behavior

(What actually happened)

Steps to reproduce

(How can someone else make/see it happen)

Proposed changes

(If you have a proposed change, workaround or fix,
describe the rationale behind it)

Plex authentication failing

I've a clean fresh installation of Home Assistant v0.107.7 as a docker container on a QNAP NAS (firmware version: 4.4.1.1216 - amd64 architecture). The Home Assistant instance has docker internal address 10.0.3.2:8123 and is exposed on my LAN with address 192.168.1.xx:327yy.

When I try to add a Plex Server integration from the Home assistant UI (see picture 01) a new window is opened to authenticate to Plex (see picture 02), but after I authenticate on Plex (see picture 03), I'm redirected to the container internal IP (10.0.3.2, not visible from the LAN) and not to the HASS LAN IP I've started from (192.168.1.xx) - see picture 04, so the integration process on Home Assistant stays waiting for a callback forever (see picture 05). Notice that on my Plex Server instance the new integration token appears correctly (so it is not a Plex login problem).

I would expect instead, after a successful Plex login, to be redirected to my Home Assistant instance LAN IP 192.168.1.xx (from which I started the process) and to successfully complete the Plex integration setup.

Nothing happens on Home Assistant logs (no new lines written during the process).
01 Start integration configuration
02 Plex login
03 Login OK
04 Wrong callback IP address
05 HASS still waiting

INFO: Starting the Plex Media Server ./run: line 18: /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server: No such file or directory

I recently Moved from hassio resin to hassOS 64bit on my Pi , had migrated the old installation with the backup-restore, after which i saw some addons like duck-dns and Node-red were failing with multiple errors. Most were repaired by removed old installation cache.

But Plex fails to start with below error also the cache data is inaccessible for deletion so i had reinstalled it multiple times but the below occurs, i had spoken to Frenck on the same.. so here are the debug logs for this addon.

Access to TV tuners

Problem/Motivation

TV Tuner cards are not available to the Plex container

Proposed changes

Add the following line to config.json

"devices": ["/dev/dvb:/dev/dvb"],

Not enough CPU for conversion of this item

Problem/Motivation

I have some TV on a Synology NAS and want to use Plex to play it back on a TV with a Plex client, via this addon, but Plex can't stream a 1080p video, it complains it doesn't have enough CPU. Plex won't even start the video and complains "Not enough CPU for conversion of this item"

I don't know if this is something that Hassio can do or this addon, but I assume that tuning Docker would be needed.

Am I better off modifying the Plex addon with Portainer to change the resources available?

Plex Server Setup

Problem/Motivation

Plex tries to set up my server every time I open it and then crashes. "Please wait a moment while Plex starts." spinning circle and crash with "A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server." I tried to reinstall many times.

Expected behavior

Set up once at first start.

Actual behavior

Described above. I can use it if i bypass with the click on the finish button but it has media library scanning issues etc..

Steps to reproduce

Open/reload the local server page. -> http://homeassistant.local:32400/

Proposed changes

I can bypass it if i click to the Finish menu but it starts again if i reload the page which is not normal.

ingress support

Problem/Motivation

Enable ingress mode to access the webpage using remote ui

(Why the issue was filed)

Expected behavior

enable ingress in config.json

(What you expected to happen)
open the plex webui in hassio

Actual behavior

(What actually happened)
getting '502 Bad Gateway'

Steps to reproduce

(How can someone else make/see it happen)

Proposed changes

(If you have a proposed change, workaround or fix,
describe the rationale behind it)

Add SSL support for web UI

Problem/Motivation

Many addons allow the use of an ssl certificate stored on the home assistant, for use by the webUI. Currently this Plex addon does not.

Expected behavior

Able to access PLEX Web UI via my home assistant domain with SSL.

Actual behavior

Browser warning NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start addon
  2. Navigate to "Web UI" option
  3. Change http --> https

Proposed changes

Add an ssl option to addon configuration, which allows specifying a cert and key file path, to enable SSL.

Mounting USB + adding own media

Problem/Motivation

How do I mount USB to my Raspberry pi4 and add own media

Steps to reproduce

followed your installation tips and when trying to add media, it askes me to "GET PLEX MEDIA SERVER"

Automatic subtitles for local media

Hello,

I know this isn't really an issue but I don't know where else to ask since I've been looking at forums all day and didn't get it to work.

I'm trying to get subtitles on my local media (I put in the shared folder), but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone found a solution for this?

Thanks in advance.

Addon not available on your system

Hi
Newbie on this, can’t find an answer elsewhere for this
Have hassio (64bit) up and running on a raspberry pi 3 model b, 32g sd card.
Getting the “this addon is not available on your system” for the plex media server component.

I see issues with arm7, this is arm8 according Wikipedia. Guessing this setup not supported?
Thx

DLNA issue

Hi Franck, hope you can help! I migrated from HA (Core) Raspbian+Docker to HA (previously called hass.io) including your Plex addon.

Plex itself is working perfectly (via browser, mobile apps, Chromecast), except for the DLNA server not being discovered. DLNA is enabled in the Plex configuration.

I don't have other addons using the port 1900. The documentation mentions a possible port conflict (bind: address already in use) but this does NOT occur. I also followed the instructions regarding 'solving connection issues in Plex'.

In the past (Plex on Docker) DLNA worked fine. In that case it was running as networking_mode: host by the way.

But with your addon my DLNA clients can't find any server. What can I do to discover the cause?

Addon could not start with activated webtools

When trying to install the son it won't start due to http parsing error
Looking at the commits, I tried accessing the updated URL. It resolves to file not found

Expected behavior

Add-on not to report errors and start correctly

Actual behavior

Reports errors and is stuck in a loop trying to start.

Steps to reproduce

Install Plex add-on. Insert claim key. Press start.

Proposed changes

Fix the latest commit changing the URL to the correct path.

For me there is no error with this, so I'm unsure why this is happening.
Thanks in advance

Only allows manual updates / auto update not working.

Problem/Motivation

Fresh install of proxmox, home assistant supervised and plex add-on.
This is what I see in the updates section of my plex server config.

image

Expected behavior

I remember updates being automatic, I thought it should give me a one-click type option to update from this spot.

Actual behavior

It only seems to give the option to update plex manually.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install proxmox on new hardware
  2. Create VM and install Home Assistant supervised OS
  3. Install Plex add-on
  4. Login to plex web ui, goto settings, find the update section

Proposed changes

Not sure what's wrong so I can't suggest what should be changed.

Data/Config Folder Access

Problem/Motivation

It's my understanding that with a Hass.io install I should be seeing the config/data folders for the Docker under /usr/share/hassio but I don't even have that folder.

/root does have a symlink in to /addons but both of those are also just blank.

Plex and SSH adding are running and working without issue though.

Looking to migrate my Plex server from an UnRAID instance to my Home Assistant box and really struggling in this regard.

Expected behavior

To access the appdata folder under or /usr/share/hassio or what appears might also be /root but there simply isn't anything populated there.

Actual behavior

Blank folder mappings everywhere. Not just this addon but seemingly all of them.

Steps to reproduce

Checked both a Raspberry Pi and Generic X86 installation and same behaviour.

Proposed changes

Probably just user error missing some documentation.

Problem - server not showing up - 'no soup for you'

Problem/Motivation

My new PMS (installed as addon via supervisor in hassio) is not showing up when i login to the web interface.

Expected behavior

I expected the setup wizard when loging in to my the PMS_IP:32400/web

Actual behavior

The text "No soup for you!" showed and i cant access the server. I see my other server tough, running on my other windows VM.

Steps to reproduce

Proposed changes

add-on won't run

Problem/Motivation

I've just installed the plex addon, but it won't start
0.110.1
running on Virtualbox

Expected behavior

Actual behavior

Revise/improve all log messages

Problem/Motivation

There are several reasons for this:

  • Not all log messages are consistent across all add-ons.
  • Some messages are unclear to the novice user.

Errors with new update

Problem/Motivation

Getting error after HA Plex update.. when using HA 107 reworked media player and custom mini player.. Even reverted snapshot to 106.6 and then did plex update, thinking it's HA107.

Reported HA error: Failed to call service media_player/media_play_pause. syntax error: line 1, column 0

The column # change numbers, I image due to the different devices I have. i.e. column 54?
Works fine for PS4 . error above on Samsung TV , DigiLand Tablet , and Kindle Fire. Haven't tried Visio.
They still allow control just show up with an error.
With new HA media Control, they controls will generally show up then disappear
I know there were some depreciated items.

Any idea Frenck?
thanks you ur help and time

Storage question

How do you guys use this exactly?
I fail to understand what is the point of this plugin if there's no way to feed it my existing media library (which is an awful limitation form hassio) O.o.
Using a raspberry pi there's no way I can load my media on the SD card: 2TB+ SD cards simply don't exist. (and yes, a PI is enough to stream media, I've been happily using a PI 3 for 4 years without any problem)

Even if I skip the SD size problem in a thought experiment:
How do you transfer your media? using a docker cp to the container? What if the container gets deleted for any reason? You just do it over and over again? O.o

I'm not complaining (again, the limitation is from above), but I really cannot think of a possible scenario, so I'd really love to know one! :)

thanks for humoring my curiosity

Option to mount network share?

Problem/Motivation

Recently used the Nextcloud add-on and it has the ability to mount a network share on the container via the config, can you do the same with this add-on? My media is on a network share. Not seeing anything in the documentation.

Expected behavior

ability to mount network share with SMB

Actual behavior

not documented if it exists.

Steps to reproduce

(How can someone else make/see it happen)

Proposed changes

document or add the functionality.

DLNA does not work

Problem/Motivation

DLNA on HASSIO does not work. According to an old issue, the Addon needs to change its networking default to use host networking. #28

Expected behavior

Computers and systems in home should see DLNA server.

Actual behavior

Plex not found.

Steps to reproduce

Enable DLNA. Notice that it doesn't work.

Proposed changes

Can this be fixed so the Addon works with DLNA for everyone without the need to hack this into a Portainer?

Missing addon from 2022.2

Problem/Motivation

This addon is missing from the list of official addons store

Expected behavior

I recall having it on the addon store

Actual behavior

The addon is missing

Steps to reproduce

Running it on RPi4
Host Operating System: Home Assistant OS 7.2
Supervisor Version: supervisor-2022.01.1
Docker Version: 20.10.9

Proposed changes

None, just to have it again available at the official store

Plex DLNA

Another great add on Frank
I installed and activated the Plex add on easily, have added various Music files in /share/Music and plex has indexed them all OK. I can access the files within my network and externally with a web browser, but none of my media players are able to find the Plex DLNA server. First off I am trying to add this add-on using Hassio and Ubuntu, this may not be support.

Plex add-on will not start, it is giving me a "Could not resolve host: plex.tv". I tried to ping plex.tv and can't, but I can ping www.plex.tv. What am I missing.

The claim code was copied and pasted from plex.tv seconds before clicking start so I know it is correct and current.

Transcode doesn't work on Raspberry Pi 4 4Gb

Problem/Motivation

Transcode doesn't work on Raspberry Pi 4, it creates the folder /share/transcode/Transcode/Sessions, but doesn't create anything in it. The video fails to play on the browser with 404 errors for /transcode paths.

Expected behavior

Playing the video

Actual behavior

Gave a series of 404 errors and doesn't create any transcode files.

Steps to reproduce

Run the add-on on Raspberry Pi 4 4Gb

Proposed changes

No proposed changes. I have no idea why this is happening.

Feature Request: add configuration option to optionally mount SMB/CIFS share

Problem/Motivation

When using Home Assistant OS, the add-on is almost useless since it can't mount any media folder.
It would be nice to implement a configuration option to mount external media folder via SMB/CIFS if the user disable "Protection Mode".
There is a technically feasible solution to this problem (e.g. https://github.com/dianlight/addon-plex)

Expected behavior

When using Home Assistant OS, I would expect to be able to disable Protection Mode in the add-on, define some media share in config and have them mounted at run-time in the add-on filesystem.

Actual behavior

It is not possible to mount any external media in Home Assistan OS.

Steps to reproduce

Nothing.

Proposed changes

Implement something similar to https://github.com/dianlight/addon-plex

Problem/Motivation

I have HA running as a VM on proxmox and my network show on truenas as a VM on proxmox. I have created a shared folder in hassOS but cant mount the network drive

Expected behavior

(What you expected to happen)

Actual behavior

(What actually happened)

Steps to reproduce

mkdir /mnt/data/supervisor/share/media_library
created a folder to mount my shared folder to

mount -t cifs -o username=YOUR_USER,password=YOUR_PASSWORD //YOUR_SHARED_SERVER_IP/YOUR_SHARED_FOLDER /mnt/data/supervisor/share/media_library
wanted to mount the folder but I get the error message:
