Hi @onnozweers
this will probably become the release under https://github.com/gridcf/gct/releases but that's still in draft. Release notes are there.

There is a difference between the individual packages which are packaged and released into among others EPEL and Debian.
They have no "knowledge" of the gct itself, hence the gct number doesn't make sense for them, as there isn't always a gct release containing them. This is also the case for globus-gass-copy-10.9: there soon will be one containing globus-gass-copy-10.10 but never was nor will be one with 10.9, although 10.9 is currently the version in EPEL. The changelog of the RPMs typically mentions briefly what changed in that version, but I agree we might want to ship individual ChangeLog or NEWS files for each package. We inherited this all from the way globus did things, but is indeed not ideal. @ellert what do you think about that, not for this release but in the future?
The release notes for the next gct does list the individual versions in the list of tarballs. We might consider adding those versions also at the text describing the changes @fscheiner what do you think?
Concerning the globus_gass_copy source tarball, there are several in https://repo.gridcf.org/gct6/sources/ and 10.9 is the latest, which is now also in EPEL (build on 2021-08-17).

You could compare it to the way UMD is numbering it's releases, which aren't directly related to the versions of the indivual packages.

Good idea. I added the version numbers on the release page but missed to get back to you about that.

@onnozweers
Does the release page of our current release give all the info you need?

For example the fix for #155 is in globus-gssapi-gsi version 14.17, so even effective with older versions of globus-url-copy as long as that specific version of globus-gssapi-gsi is in use.

I found https://gridcf.org/gct-docs/6.2/gridftp/rn/index.html but it does not seem to be recent/detailed enough to see which recent issues it solves.

I still find it difficult to relate the command version number (we have 10.9) to the release number (GCT 6.2.20201212 or other). I tried this:

[surfadvisors-ozweers@ui-02 ~]$ globus-url-copy -version
globus-url-copy: 10.9

[surfadvisors-ozweers@ui-02 ~]$ rpm -qf $(which globus-url-copy)
globus-gass-copy-progs-10.9-1.el8.x86_64

[surfadvisors-ozweers@ui-02 ~]$ rpm -qi globus-gass-copy-progs-10.9-1.el8.x86_64

Description :
The Grid Community Toolkit (GCT) is an open source software toolkit used for
building grid systems and applications. It is a fork of the Globus Toolkit
originally created by the Globus Alliance. It is supported by the Grid
Community Forum (GridCF) that provides community-based support for core
software packages in grid computing.

The globus-gass-copy-progs package contains:
Globus Gass Copy Programs

Have I overlooked something? Would it be an idea to include the GCT release number in (one of) these outputs?

I guess it's in the release notes as https://repo.gridcf.org/gct6/sources/globus_gass_copy-10.8.tar.gz
But then I'm wondering how we could have 10.9, since I see no release listed with that version?

Thanks for the explanation.
