bible's Introduction

OSIS Bibles

A collection of freely licensed translations of biblical text in OSIS formt.

More information on OSIS available here: http://www.bibletechnologies.net/

Contributing

Please use the following naming convention (lowercase):

/[lanaguage code]/[osisIDWork].xml

Additionally "_whatever" may be appended to the file base name if needed for clarification. For example "kjv_strongs.xml" for Strong's study version. "kjv_nt.xml" for New-Testament-only (if there is not already a osisIDWork for this specific version).

Other Formats

OSIS version split into seperate XML files by book:

https://github.com/lookitscook/osis-bibles/tree/split

(for use with github hosted ajax applications, etc.. so entire text does not need to be loaded up front)

If there is interest in hosting other formats additional branches can be created and the project re-organized accordingly.

bible's Issues

Strongs use wrong G/H prefix

Noticed while trying to convert elb1905str from OSIS to the format used by my own Bible tools:

        <verse osisID='Mark.1.6'>
          <w lemma='strong:H2491'>Johannes </w>
          <w lemma='strong:H1161'>aber </w>
          <w lemma='strong:H2258'>war </w>
          <w lemma='strong:H1746'>bekleidet </w> mit <w lemma='strong:H2359 strong:G2574'>Kamelhaaren </w><w lemma='strong:H2532'>und </w> einem <w lemma='strong:H1193'>ledernen </w><w lemma='strong:H2223'>Gürtel </w><w lemma='strong:H4012'>um </w><w lemma='strong:H846'>seine </w><w lemma='strong:H3751'>Lenden </w>; <w lemma='strong:H2532'>und </w> er <w lemma='strong:H2068'>aß </w><w lemma='strong:H200'>Heuschrecken </w><w lemma='strong:H2532'>und </w><w lemma='strong:H66'>wilden </w><w lemma='strong:H3192'>Honig </w>.</verse>
  1. Matt is Greek so should use G prefix and not H (in fact, all NT books except Revelation use H and not G in this bible)
  2. Some words even use one G and one H prefix, like strong:H2359 strong:G2574.

Maybe you can fix it :)

import SBL Greek New Testament

http://sblgnt.com/download/

the problem with both greek OSIS and XML files are that they do not use normal embedded XML tags, but linear tags, which need additional processing. If somebody can convert them to use embedded XML tags like bibles here, only then it can be converted without rewriting the script

en/bwe.xml contains nul characters

The bwe.xml file has half of revelation 22 repeated after the closing OSIS tag, separated from the main XML by a row of NUL characters.

I've attached the corrected file. Had to rename it to .txt to upload it.

bwe.txt

Is this project active?

Hi all.

I want to help, but I want to know if this project is active. Is this project active?

Primary index is missing

I'm a user of a Sailfish OS app called "Bible'me". Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore since you deleted the /index.xml ( #f3367ec1de976653cfc677904c3c2a851eeef2b2) Maybe this leads to an error with other bible apps as well, so I wanted to ask if you could bring this file back.

Please excuse me, if I don't know all conventions on reporting issues on Github and everything yet. Thanks for this awesome repo!

Translated book titles

Thank you for gathering these translations and sharing the repository. The format is friendly for processing, and I was happy to find it.

I noticed that book titles are not translated, e.g., Genesis, Exodus, etc. For the particular version I'm currently working with (Portuguese), I was able to find titles elsewhere and include them into the data set. I'm interested in working with other languages, but for each one I'll have to find the translated book titles.

Do you know by chance, if the original source of these OSIS versions might already include translated book titles? That would save me the trouble of searching, especially when I don't know the language.
