Related issue in Bromite

This is an upstream issue, and it's not entirely clear how this is supposed to work but it seems to be broken right now.

This is trickier than it seems because losing the data on existing installs wouldn't be desirable.

I obtained an API key for Safe Browsing, but simply building safe_browsing_mode=3 and the API key in the build configuration doesn't work. It does appear to attempt to make API requests, but they fail and show up as errors in the API usage metrics. Using the API manually via curl with the API key does work.

This was broken during the port to Chromium 78.

Blocked on #43.

This is possible on Bromite but they let you choose only from a few providers. They also recommend the use of Cloudflare, which is ridiculous for a browser that calls itself privacy-oriented. I don't trust Cloudflare and I wish I could choose my provider as I can easily do in Firefox. For example I would like to be able to set CZ.NIC's DoH.

On Bromite I can easily set my favorite search engine on Startpage. Is it possible to do it here too?

please, provide .apk builds in this repo 'releases' !
so, it will be possible to install Vanadium on usual android! ..and will be btw easy to update it on GrapheneOS!
as a result it gets more popularity to GrapheneOS!!!

MIT or similar would make it easy to include these in my builds and save me a lot of time trying to re-implement them :)

When I download a PDF with Vanadium I get a notification that the download has failed. However when going into file manager, the file has actually been downloaded.

Notice for people looking at this issue: you can already add custom search engines and you do not need this feature to add search engines on your own. This issue is about adding them to the built-in set of user-facing search engines. Many additional search engines are also already included in the built-in search engine database but aren't added to the curated per-locale list of search engines. The current curation is from upstream and based on measured traffic.
