This allows you to cryptographically sign ruby gems, so that a user can later verify that they've downloaded a copy that hasn't been tampered with or hacked.

This was a proof-of-concept Certificate Authority that was used to advocate for my plugin that allowed authors to cryptographically sign ruby gems. Signing isn't useful on its own unless you trust the source of the signature. Email is used to provide out-of-band identity verification, then the CA marks a key as trusted.
