A colonial monument to the butcher of Atjeh (Indonesia) got finally renamed and converted in 2004 to a general monument to remember the Dutch colonization (inc all the atrocities) of the Indies. The monument was unveiled by the then queen in 1935 under large protest of the communist and social-democrat parties, there where continued calls for its removal since it was first planned. In 1965 slogans where painted on it, in 1967 it was bombed with an IED, in june 1984 the plaque with the face of van Heutsz was stolen and slogans painted, in september 1984 there was another bomb attempt with a stick of dynamite (that injured a playing 12 year old kid by accident), in the 90's the plaque and bronze letters where removed and never found nor replaced.

San Francisco took down a Columbus statue Thursday, the day before a protest was threatening to.
Bonus: The work by Vittorio di Colbertaldo was erected in 1957 by San Francisco’s Italian-American community. Di Colbertaldo was an Italian fascist, a member of Mussolini's bodyguard and il Duce's official sculptor.
