Blog for Global Names Architecture
For the record, this issue came in some time ago and I just came across it in BHL's issue tracker: BHLFEED-58131 [email protected] Created 25-Jul-2016 19:20
Name: Laura Blumhagen
URL: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/namedetail/Cypella_platensis
I work at the Elisabeth C. Miller Library in Seattle, and we use and appreciate your service. Today a library patron was searching for published references to Cypella platensis. He was very excited when early entries came up, prior to 1917...but then disappointed when many of those entries actually referenced Cardamine pratensis.
To put here all web-apps GN is currently running
blog about @tobymarsden PR
Hyperlinks in the sidebar menu on pages https://globalnames.org/docs/home/ and https://globalnames.org/apps/ point to localhost:4000 instead of the correct address under the globalnames.org domain
Arctos pulls taxonomy classifications from Global Names. I was asking @dustymc about adding avian taxonomies from spreadsheets into Arctos, and he suggested the better approach was to add them to Global Names (contact @dimus) which would benefit Arctos and the broader community. Is this feasible. These are updated ~annually, but here are the lists I was thinking of:
IOC World Bird List - https://www.worldbirdnames.org/ioc-lists/master-list-2/
Clements Checklist - https://www.birds.cornell.edu/clementschecklist/download/
AOS Checklist - http://checklist.americanornithology.org/taxa/
Howard and Moore Checklist - https://www.howardandmoore.org/howard-and-moore-database/
Thanks!

Name: Barry Hammel
URL: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/name/Clusia_cylindrica_Hammel
Somehow the name Clusia cylindrica Hammel has gotten attached to Luffa cylindrica. When one does a search in BHL for the Clusia and clicks on the links, one comes to ancient publications where neither Clusia nor Hammel is mentioned, only L. cylindrica. Obviously some error here.
From a user recently:
Name: Dr Phiip Pugh [email protected]
URL: https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/name/Physalia_utricalis
For your information, I noted that you have 4 instances of where the name Physalia utricalis was used, but in all cases the correct version P. utriculus is used.Nevertheless I am a great fan of the BHL.
The Gardener's Bulletin, Singapore references for Macleania crenulata are all incorrect. They are citing a totally different genus! Please delete these three pages from citing Macleania crenulata!

Hi Dima, we received more feedback about a scientific name issue from a BHL user. Thanks for looking into this when you have time:
URL: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/search?searchTerm=Prostomum+marginatum
Searching for Prostomum marginatum brings up a hyperlink with two hits for Prostomum marginatum Leidy, 1847, but each of those three hits really points to Produxus marginatus, an insect (Prostomum is a flatworm)
A BHL search for Althaea rugosa finds seven hits (actually thre hits, duplicate of the same page are included) that it says are Althaea rugosa (Alef.) Litv. (a mallow plant), but they are actually all hits for a crustacean, Galathaea rugosa.
http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/name/Althaea_rugosa_(Alef$)_Litv$
I'm curious to know if there's any way to submit feedback somewhere to have names corrected? The "Eros minutus" on this page http://biodiversitylibrary.org/page/9609731 is resolving to Lycus minutus Green, 1949 which is incorrect. Can you fix this?
So, we you did merge PRs to master
. How those commits appear to jekyll
branch? Should it be done by the person who merged to master
, or some other person who starts working in jekyll
?
On the Introduction page, the link to Rich Pyle's blog post (http://www.tdwg.org/fileadmin/2008conference/slides/Pyle_03_01_Taxonomic_Names_of_Organisms.swf) appears to be broken.
