dataverse-language-packs

Repository for language files associated with Dataverse

Some language packages are only available for older versions, to get the latest version view the published branches (please see notes below).

API Documentation for deploying language files is still under development.

Please Note: These transalations are provided as is. If you see any problems, please open an issue and/or contact the organization listed below as the maintainer of the translation.

dataverse-language-packs's Issues

Escape apostrophe

In the Dataverse issue tracker, an issue was created by @rmo-cdsp (IQSS/dataverse#5226), reporting a missing link in the account notification for file access requests.

On the second one, you can see the same page, but in french. But there is no link, just a {0}. I assume something went wrong when trying to retrieve the url to the dataset.

It was suggested by @mhvezina that an apostrophe needed to be escaped, and I was able to confirm this with this fix:

notification.requestFileAccess=Demande d''accès pour l''ensemble de données\u00A0: {0}.

There were also changes to this message in the English bundle in 4.10 release (IQSS/dataverse#5229), that adds more user information to the notification with two additional params.

I am opening this bug report in this new language packs repo, and closing the original issue in the dataverse repo.

Update french labels for datasets and dataverses

Following Zulip and email discussion,
update the translation of the following translations :

dataset = jeu de données
dataverse = collection
review = révision (was already used in some cases but not harmonized)
reviewer = relecteur
withheld = anonymisé

Develop branch for dataverse-language-packs

The content of the develop branch doesn't reflect latest version of language packs as one would probably expect (even the source language, en_US, is not up to date if I'm not mistaken).

Since there is no "develop" version for languages packs I think this branch should be removed or should be kept minimal, maybe with only an up-to-date readme.md file pointing to the latest translation (version branches) for each language represented. Would that be a good idea?

Encoding issues in translation files

Dataverse v4.19 has some translation files with characters in iso-8859-1 or utf-8 without the escape way . This characters are not right displayed in Dataverse. These files are:

Dataverse v4.11 facets translation and dataverse-language-packs develop branch

Dataverse v4.11 facets are not properly translated to French and Spanish. This issue affect to dataverse-language-pack project too. There are some facets that are not translated, other facets with a wrong translation and other that are properly translated:

  • "Dataverse Category", "Publication Year" and "Subject" are not translated.
  • "Auteur Nom" and "Mot-Clé Terme" should be "Auteur", "Mot-Clé" or "Auteur: Nom", "Mot-Clé: Terme"

How to Help Translate Dataverse Into Your Language

Heads up that in IQSS/dataverse#5843 I took @JayanthyChengan steps and rewrote them a bit and added a section at the bottom called "How to Help Translate Dataverse Into Your Language". As of this writing it looks like this:

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 4 00 09 PM

As you can see, I'm linking people who want to help to this repo so we should improve the README to explain how.

Any volunteers? 😄 We should try to get all the translations from https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-docker/tree/master/dataversedock/dataverse-property-files at least:

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 4 04 27 PM

It looks like @4tikhonov collected them and committed them. That's fine. The person doing the translation doesn't necessarily need to be a superstar with git, right?

Let's also not forget the Polish translation from @madryk and @MrK191 at CeON/dataverse#29 that I'm (currently) tracking at IQSS/dataverse-docker#15

There's also the Chinese translation at IQSS/dataverse#4798 that was added by @pengchengluo

There are others I'd like to reach out to as well, once the README is place. I'll have to check with @umuchlish if he knows if Slamet or Sjaeful are on GitHub.

Outdated translations

Hello Dataverse translation community,

we just installed Dataverse at Bonn University (Germany) as a test-repository. Unfortunately, German translations (and probably many other languages, since last commits seem to be far in the past).

We helped ourselves using existing file and Google translations (which does not work bad at all). Therefore, I have some questions to this community:

  1. Is the repository still maintained, or are other translation activities out there?
  2. We would like to share our file (keeping in mind that some translations may still be odd due to automatic procedure). In that case, would you like to let me update the German version of the file, or I can send it to you.
  3. Are you interested in our strategy for (semi) (auto) translating the files? It would take around 30 minutes for a language to complete, the accuracy can be further improved later. Here is the Google sheet I used to translate. It is probably self-explanatory, but I can also provide support in understanding the procedure. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15BW2MH5nJz_RAtiAmWBp3xt4RVNf9z5YF2mAEWvMKgQ/edit#gid=832324258

PS: In my opinion, sooner or later we will not be able to maintain such projects manually (more than 2500 keys have to be considered in dozens of languages) and should anyway accept using automatic procedures, if we want to keep this up-to-date. The Google algorithms are getting amazingly better and better. We could even think about some automatic procedure using their API and just send deltas to users for final corrections. Tell me if you are interested in creating something like that.

Need Installation Documentation (anything would help)

the README.md says "API Documentation for deploying language files is still under development". Any example would be greatly appreciated.

After reading the documentation at http://guides.dataverse.org/en/latest/installation/config.html
I tried the following but I get a server internal error.

My version of dataverse is v. 4.14 build 1326-57a392d

Step 1)

curl http://localhost:8080/api/admin/settings/:Languages -X PUT -d '[{  "locale":"en", "title":"English"},  {  "locale":"fr", "title":"Français"}]'

I can now see the toggle button in the navbar (though it is not functional yet).

Step 2)

cd /var/www/dataverse
git clone https://github.com/GlobalDataverseCommunityConsortium/dataverse-language-packs.git
git checkout --track origin/dataverse-v4.14
./asadmin create-jvm-options '-Ddataverse.lang.directory=/var/www/dataverse/dataverse-language-packs'

When loading any page I get
java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name Bundle, locale en

I verified that all permissions are indeed rwxr-xr-x. Anything obvious that I'm doing wrong? Do I have to move the language pack in docroot of glasshfish?

Remove unused Bundle properties

The following properties are present in Bundle.properties for some translations but are not used in the Dataverse code :

  • account.emailvalidation.header

  • account.emailvalidation.token.exists

  • Check for more unused properties to have a more exhaustive list

  • Remove unused properties for translations that had them (split into all translations)
