oops's Introduction

Introduction

This is OOPS, a proof system for modal logics implemented in Java. It supports the logics K, KE, T, B, D, K4, K45, KD45, S4, S4E, S5, and S5E as well as ordinary propositional logic. OOPS makes use of a tableau proof method in order to prove or disprove formulas, and can generate counter models to formulas that are not provable. More information can be found on the OOPS wiki on GitHub.

OOPS was originally created by Elske van der Vaart and Gert van Valkenhoef in the context of a Multi-Agent Systems course project, and stood for "Object Oriented Prover for S5n". In 2012, Lourens Elzinga and Rik Timmers (with some help from Wouter Reckman) extended OOPS to handle various other axiom systems, thereby invalidating the name.

To encourage future work on OOPS, the source code is available under the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL). It is our hope that OOPS will be tested, proven correct, extended or otherwise enhanced in the context of future student projects.

Or simply double-click on oops.jar.

Compiling from source

Requirements

In order to build the sources in this directory you need:

Any additional dependencies will be downloaded automatically via Maven.

Getting the latest version from GitHub

You will need to have Git installed. Run the following command:

$ git clone https://github.com/gertvv/oops.git

Alternatively, go to https://github.com/gertvv/oops and see the downloads section, where you can retrieve source for any of the released versions of OOPS.

Building the JAR

Do the following:

    $ mvn package

This will create application/target/oops-$VERSION-jar-with-dependencies.jar, which you can use to run OOPS. It will also automatically run the unit test suite.

Developing in Eclipse

Use the M2 Eclipse plugin to import OOPS as an existing maven project.
